Zoogs are a sapient species of furtive creatures which inhabit the Earth's Dreamlands. There are at least two known locations in which their realm is connected to the waking world, giving the Zoogs limited access to the latter, although they can't venture too far into it. It is believed that the Zoogs have been responsible for unexplained events and disappearances in these areas.
Biology[]
Zoogs are small, brown, agile creatures which scurry over the forests of the dream-world. They have "weird eyes", which can be seen before one is able to discern the approach of the Zoogs themselves.
Their diet is omnivorous and consists primarily of fungi, complemented with meat. They are opportunistic predators and can feed on both physical and spiritual meat, the latter meaning that they can consume those who visit their world while dreaming.
Cats and Zoogs are natural enemies, as each species will prey on the other if given the chance.
Culture and society[]
Zoogs make their homes in the woodlands, in burrows and in the trunks of giant oak trees, illuminated by phosphorescent fungi. They live in villages ruled by a Council of Sages, and communicate in a fluttering language.
Although the Zoogs sometimes prey on Humans who visit the Dreamlands in their sleep, experienced dreamers like Randolph Carter have learned to communicate in their language and make treaties with them.
