Wintherins are dragon-like beings used as war mounts by the Night Sentinels of Argent D'Nur and the Jekkadians of Hell.

Biology[]

Wintherins are large, six limbed dragon-like beings, with a quadrupedal stance and white body, bearing a long neck, long tail with a barbed end, and two wings, with a wingspan nearly twice the length of their bodies. The ends of their patagium closer to their joints bear a purple coloration, as do four horn-like protrusions coming from their head, two of which come from where their eyes would be. Given the placement of those two horns, Wintherins have no visible eyes, but have visible nostrils and a fanged mouth, their head being somewhat humanoid in shape, with their chins protruding downwards. While their bodies appear mostly scaly, their heads are visibly armored with bone-like plates. Wintherins are large and strong enough to carry at least one being of Human-like weight on their backs, and can fly at high speeds, able to cross a distance equal to three day's walking in a minute.

A demonic breed of Wintherins are dark green in color, have only two horns that appear to be almost glowing red, red highlights in place of purple highlights now located at the ends of the patagium away from their joints, and two barbs on their tail instead of one. Any differences in physiology from normal Wintherins are unknown. Wintherins, while not appearing sapient, are able to be domesticated and show loyalty to their masters, presumably also able to see through some sort of extra sense. Wintherins also have the ability to shoot beams of blue fire from their mouths, capable of quickly incinerating smaller beings, even demons.

History[]

Wintherins arose on Argent D'Nur from the Wraithcall, which created the entire biosphere of Argent D'Nur, eventually culminating in the sapient Argenta. The Argenta tamed the Wintherins by an unknown point in time, but at the very least during the service of the Doom Slayer. Tamed Wintherins were assigned to members of the Night Sentinels. At some point in the Doom Slayer's service as a Night Sentinel, he acquired his own Wintherin, who bore his sigil on its forehead. They presumably served in the war between Argent D'Nur and Hell, while the Maykrs, ancient extradimensional aliens who vassalized the Argenta under the guise of gods, began to conspire with the demons to allow the world to be corrupted in exchange for immortality-granting Argent Energy. Likely during the fall of Argent D'Nur, Wintherins were brought to Hell and corrupted into demonic WIntherins, utilized by the Jekkadians in Immora. The Doom Slayer and the Night Sentinels with him were trapped in Hell by the very Argenta Deag Priests they served, who had turned to the side of the Maykrs. However, the Doom Slayer's Wintherin remained loyal to him, and survived for thousands of years awaiting the return of its master. It and other non-corrupted Wintherins were likely looked after by the surviving Night Sentinels and free Argenta tribes who escaped the Maykrs' takeover of the world. Thousands of years later, the Doom Slayer was released from his imprisonment in a demonic sarcophagus, fighting off an invasion of Mars and Earth, and later revived the Dark Lord Davoth in order to destroy him and end Hell's threat forever. Davoth escaped to Immora, and the Slayer returned to Argent D'Nur to gain access to a crystal capable of powering the Gates of Divum, the only way to the Immora. The Slayer lit the Torch of Kings, declaring his intention to enter the World Spear, the origin of the Elemental Wraiths and the site where the crystal was kept. To avoid a three-day walk from the Torch to the Spear, the Slayer summoned his Wintherin and rode it to the Nether Lake at the base of the Spear. Sending the Wintherin away after landing, the Slayer continued on foot to the Spear. After the Slayer activated the Gate of Divum, the remaining Night Sentinels and free tribes of Argent D'Nur manage to follow him to Immora with all the armaments they have, including Wintherins. As the Night Sentinels gathered, Davoth sent forth his army of Demonic Troopers, demons, and demonic Wintherins. After the battle, the fate of the Wintherin race remains unknown.
