Wind Serpents are brightly-colored winged constrictors distantly related to Coatl indigenous to Azeroth and Draenor, though it is unknown if these two species are actually related or just an example of Titan-manipulated convergent evolution. They posses a feathered head and move by powered flight, rejecting a slithering lifestyle almost altogether (though they will still slither amongst the branches they build their nests in). The most common hue for scales is green, although they can range anywhere from dark brown to a faint orange. Interestingly, their plumage often matches their scales yet with red or yellow tips, indicating that they are likely not used in displays.
On Azeroth they are indigenous to a number of locations, including but not limited to the Barrens of Kalimdor, and while not extremely common usually, they are still often revered as spirits of the sky by local tribes of savage races, such as the Quilboars. Though they are not exactly aggressive, they are territorial and will tend to attack anything coming close to their nest, which they build high in trees.
Having evolved from constrictors, they are ambush predators that crawl among branches or flying silently from dark nooks. They are swift strikers, moving at lightning speed to take out their prey. Despite having constricting ancestors, they have varied widely in their actual preferred style of attack, using either their whip-like tails, thunder breath and needle fangs to stun, shock, and inject their venom. Some are in this respect have become more like vipers than constrictors, though even more amazingly, some are in truth magical beasts akin to air elementals instead of actual animals, and they can possess an astonishing variety of magical abilities. These magical wind serpents tend to be slightly larger and tougher than their lesser, natural cousins. One such type of magical wind serpent species is the Cloud Serpent. These magical beings and perhaps even their natural cousins have a connection to Hakkar the Soulflayer, being the cousins of the old, old god, with their very spirits linked to him. They also are connected to Al'Akir.
