The Voice in the Darkness, otherwise known as the "Living heart of the void", the "Lord of the in-between places" and the "One true god", was an ancient and malevolent entity originating from the Void.
Biography[]
Prior to recorded history, the Voice in the Darkness laid waste to countless worlds and civilisations before it was defeated by the Xel'Naga. However, due to their reverence for life, they opted to imprison it within a barren planet in the K2-L system rather than kill it.
In 2503, Human scientists of the Moebius Foundation discovered the Voice in the Darkness, which proceeded to possess half of their number and slaughter the remainder. A team of Nerazim Protoss arrived to investigate and engaged the possessed Humans. One of the Protoss, Xy'tal, fell under the entity's influence and attacked his comrades. Upon Xy'tal breaking free of the entity's control, it revealed its true form, resembling an abstract shadowy mass, and drove the Protoss to retreat. Determined to restore his honour for his brief enthrallment, Xy'tal charged the Argus Crystal which imprisoned the entity with void energies, detonating it and sacrificing himself to destroy the Voice. However, although the Protoss could find no trace of it after the incident, Xy'tal's comrade Azimar received a telepathic message taunting him with an image of Xy'tal's face, implying the entity may have survived.
