Velocitronians are a subspecies of Cybertronians from the desert planet Velocitron (sometimes known as the Speed Planet).

Biology[]

Anatomy[]

Velocitronians share a similar biology to other Cybertronians, though they generally transform into high-powered racing vehicles.

Powers and abilities[]

Velocitronians share many of the same abilities as other Cybertronians.

Velocitronians are particularly fast, befitting their nature as speed demons.

Culture and society[]

When Velocitron was colonized by trailblazing Cybertronians eons ago, the flat desert planet and its wide-open spaces soon gave rise to a monomaniacal culture focused entirely on racing. This is no planet for ungainly or slow-moving Cybertronians. If one is not a racer, pit crew member, or spectator, then they are clearly not a Velocitronian.

Although the citizens of Velocitron are both blisteringly fast and constantly searching for ways to go faster, their elitist, high-consumption racing culture has also eaten away at their basic infrastructure and social development. Forever fixated on speed, other Cybertronians might classify the average Velocitronian as impatient, high-strung, or just plain annoying.

Government[]

The Velocitronians' racing obsession permeates every facet of life, as they can race to elect leaders and implement governmental policies in massively publicized events. A famous example of this practice is the Speedia 500.

Religion[]

Velocitronians are associated with Amalgamous Prime.

History[]

Alternate history[]

During the Cybertronians' campaign with the Titan Masters, Velocitron's biggest race of the year was interrupted in the final lap. Blurr was a previous champion of all Velocitron's major races by that point. Teaming up with Titan Master Hyperfire at his wheel, Blurr vied with Wheelie for the lead. However, the Decepticon tracker Scourge and Titan Master Crashbash attacked, trying to capture their assigned target, Hyperfire. Luckily, Powermaster Optimus Prime, Sentinel Prime, and Hardhead were on hand to try and stop them.

Sometime later, a new race was held with the prize new prize being the power to temporarily control the speed of anything, even time itself. Laser Prime led an Autobot team comprised of Rodimus Prime, Nautica, Fastclash, and Quickswitch. Rodimus finished the race first and claimed the prize for the Autobots, but there was a catch. To gain the power, he was transformed into a Titan Master himself, able to grant it to another. The Autobots faced a firefight to evade the Decepticons and leave the planet. Laser Prime saved the day, using his Laserpoint System to open a portal away from the world of speed.

Notes[]

  • The depiction of Velocitron's mobile cities in the 2005 IDW continuity strongly resembles the "Traction Cities" featured in the Mortal Engines series.
  • Blurr is exclusively portrayed as a Velocitronian in the "Aligned" continuity and Cyberverse, being portrayed as a regular Cybertronian in other media.
  • Crumplezone was listed as part of the roster of "Aligned" Star Seekers slated to appear in an early version of Transfomers: Prime's third season.[1][2]
    • At first glance, it is likely that the character would have been portrayed as a Velocitronian much like his Transformers: Cybertron counterpart. However, he was described as "just the tiniest giant, an outcast of his world".[3] Therefore, Crumpezone would have instead been depicted as a Gigantion.
  • Honk from the IDW's 2019 Transformers comic is the first character in any Transformers media to be explicitly identified as non-binary. Interestingly enough, the character has a color palette drawn from the transgender flag.
    • Honk was conceptualized by Rebecca Ann, significant other of IDW Transformers editor David Mariotte,[4] with artist Jack Lawrence adding the character at their suggestion.[5]
    • While going unnamed in the Transformers: Wreckers—Tread & Circuits comic, Mariotte later confirmed that the Velocitronian with the frog-like alternate mode had been named "Honk" by Ann. Mariotte would also confirm that the character was non-binary as well as a Triple Changer, with their third mode being a clown car.[6]
  • In the film Transformers One, several of the Iacon 5000 racers are modeled after Generation 1 Blurr and Cybertron Override. However, it is unclear whether either of these incarnations are also Velocitronians.
