The Vauvusar are a mysterious spacefaring race of amphibians in the Greater Magellanic Cloud galaxy.
Biology[]
Vauvasar are a bipedal race of amphibians whom are tall, have large skulls with eyes on the sides and a huge mouth, a willowy build with four arms and two legs, and have a whiplike tail which is not prehensile. The bulbous flat head itself is mostly eyes, nostrils, ears, and mouth. They can suck in a large amount of water through the mouth and expel it in a powerful stream of water. Neither the arms or legs are powerful, though the legs are stronger than the legs.
Females do not become fertile until selected to become brood mothers. A brood mother chooses the partners and lays up to 100 eggs which are fertilized by one or more males in a breeding pool. The eggs have a survival rate of 50% and depending on the ambient temperature of the pool, 80% will be of one sex and 20% of the other. Regardless of which father fertilized which egg, all those from the breeding pool are considered siblings (though the bond between the siblings is not as important as in other species). The Vauvusar life span appears to be about 200 years.
Culture and society[]
Vauvusar family units consist of a brood mother, her helper, and her offspring. Though the lovers of the brood mother or the helper may live with them, they are not obligated to their offspring. Despite this the lovers willingly help the household.
Sexuality is removed from reproduction and love between the Vauvusar is an emotional bonding that becomes spiritual which can only be broken by death or insanity. If that happens the surviving partner may decide not to bond with someone else due to respecting the first bond. The Vauvusar have different levels of love and intensity from the lowest (acquaintance) to the highest (lover).
They are a race filled with insatiable curiosity. Usually when inquiring about something they will intensely stare at the target, until the target invites them to ask questions. Afterwards a stream of questions come forth from the Vauvusar.
Government[]
Within the Magellanic Republic, only the brood mothers are permitted to vote. Since the Vavausar see the brood mothers as been wise and are assumed to have the family's best interests at heart, the political decision making is left to them. All levels of Vavausar government from the local councils to the Galactic Council are made up of brood mothers with the nominal head of government (First Mother) likewise being a brood mother.
History[]
Humans first encountered the Vauvusar in 4996 AD, when ambassadors from the Magellenic Republic introduced themselves to several human worlds. During the Snow Plague in the 51st century, the Vauvusar helped the sick on the human worlds and during the KessRith and Ssora campaigns of conquest against the Human Raj that followed they often negotiated to retreat of human forces and evacuated humans.
They were able to preserve some aspects of human culture by buying human slaves for study and to perform art for them, which were kept in Vauvusar slave plantations that became centers of education and culture after the human worlds were liberated. As time went on, the Vauvusar bought obsolete weaponry from the Ssora which they claimed was going be used to arm insurgents back in their home galaxy. The Vauvusar smuggled these weapons to the human resistance led by Alexander Trajan which expelled the Ssora.
Since the establishment of fascist totalitarian human empire (Terran Overlord Government) and the rebellion of a chuck of the imperial forces, the Renegade Legions, the Vauvusar have had military units in the armed forces of the multi-species democratic Commonwealth (far end of the Orion arm) which occasionally do battle with TOG units. Vauvusar within the TOG claim they are renegades from the Magellanic Republic, while the Vauvusar who are in the Commonwealth say otherwise.
