I'm from the Southern US and have had an interesting history regarding science fiction. Despite being born in the 1990s my first exposure to science fiction where shows and films from the 70s, 60s, 50s, 40s, and 30s - including Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe, the original Star Wars Trilogy, BraveStarr, Star Trek TOS, etc. A few films and shows from latter decades interest me but most do not. Examples of the shows I have enjoyed are Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century, and Treasure Planet.
I'm into what I've been told is light science fantasy fiction- human like aliens, aliens resembling terrestrial animals, rockets and saucers, ray guns, and a hint of the fantasy genre. I enjoy Victorian, medieval and other archaic aesthetics in science fiction and find pure science fiction or pure fantasy difficult to enjoy. I suppose I've always found more familiarity in the past than the present with History and Geography being my favorite subjects in school.
