The Unopans were a species originally native to the planet Unopa.
Biology[]
The Unopans are a humanoid species, with three fingers on each hand and two large toes on their feet. Their skin is orange and heads are shaped like a sugar loaf and dominated by a single eye.
History[]
In the past, hundreds of years ago, Unopa was attacked by the Viltrumites, conquering the planet in a matter of days. The surviving Unopans though managed to escape Unopa, abandoning it in favor of the safety of the stars. To ensure their species' survival, the Unopans created breeding camps on various outposts.
The Unopans were the reached out by the Coalition of Planets, led by Great Thaddeus, who was impressed by the Unopans ability to escape and overcome the hardships of the Viltrumite invasion. The Unopans then joined the Coalition and later the Unopan High Council put a proposal on a plan to defeat the Viltrumite menace. The plan was to genetically enhance a new breed of Unopan, capable of withstanding Viltrumite invasion. Thaddeus desperate for a weapon against the Viltrumite approved of the plan.
This led to the Unopan government in experimenting on unborn fetuses, though many results were complete failures creating ill-born mutants. There was only one success, Allen who had none of the disfigurements of his previous predecessors or mental handicaps. Since birth Allen was trained by his people to be the perfect warrior in the universe using virtual simulations. Even before reaching adulthood Allen there was no foe he could not defeat.
Once he reached adulthood, the Coalition was sent out on a mission against the Viltrumite. The encounter ended in disaster, as it was discovered that while Allen was stronger than most living beings in the universe, he was no match for the savage might of a single Viltrumite.
Due to Allen's defeat, the Coalition and Unopans shuttered the program. Allen was then reassigned as a Champion Evaluation Officer to measure champions in the worlds of the Coalition. However it was merely a guise in a search to find someone who was stronger than him, in hopes they could defeat the Viltrumites.
Culture[]
The Unopans are a highly skilled people, advanced in genetics, creating offspring in a factory environment to maintain their population. While the breeding camps saved the Unopans from extinction, it destroyed family structure and social behavior in Unopan society. Due to this Unopans regard physical love to be forbidden, as they believe the breeding factories and child raising colonies are more efficient. They especially look down on breeding with other races, all in the pretense of preserving their species. Even though such taboos are no longer needed as the Unopans are no longer endangered as they they were hundreds of years ago. Some critics to such taboos believe that the Unopans are too accustomed to their backwards methods to change.
Currently the Unopans aside from a few outposts are a nomadic species.
