Trolls are a humanoid semi-insectoid race and the founders of the Alternian Empire.
Biology[]
Trolls are a humanoid race with orange horns and grey skin that gradually darkens as they age until it becomes vantablack. Baby trolls are not humanoid, and are instead grubs until they go through a metamorphosis at some point in their childhood.
Trolls do not reproduce sexually. Instead, reproduction involves producing genetic slurry and having it fed to a creature called a Mother Grub, which causes it to birth Trolls instead of its own species. Genetic material is requested forcefully by bucket-carrying drones each year.
The most defining aspect of a Troll is their blood colour, which determines their hierarchical rank in Troll society. Rustbloods, Bronzebloods, and Goldbloods are the lowest and most populous castes, with Olives, Jades, Teals, and Blues making up the middle caste, and the ruling caste is made up of Indigos, Purples, Violets, and Fuchsias.
Trolls are nocturnal due to their planet's proximity to its star. Staring at the sun during the day is enough to make a Troll permanently blind, with the exception of Jadebloods.
The lifespan of a troll varies depending on their rank in the Hemospectrum, with Rustbloods living for less time than humans while Fuchsiabloods are functionally immortal.
Abilities[]
Trolls have abilities based on their blood caste.
Rustbloods possess limited telekinesis and the ability to commune with the dead, while Bronzebloods have the ability to control animals. Goldbloods possess massive amounts of uncontrollable psionic energy and are usually converted into living batteries to power warships.
Olivebloods and Tealbloods seem to lack a special ability, but Jadebloods are the only trolls able to survive in the harsh Alternian sunlight. Some Jadebloods even possess the ability to return after death as a vampiric Rainbow Drinker.
Perhaps even more powerful are the Bluebloods, who have the ability to control the minds of other trolls. Above them are the Indigobloods, who possess an insane amount of physical strength. Purplebloods too have superhuman strength, and in addition they also possess "Chucklevoodoos" that manipulate people's perceptions.
The ruling castes, the Violetbloods and Fuchsiabloods, possess gills and live in the oceans of Alternia.
Society[]
A Troll's place in society is dictated by the Hemospectrum and depends on the colour of their blood. Rustbloods are the lowest and most populous, while Fuchsiabloods are the highest. There is only ever two Fuschia's alive at the same time - the Imperious Condescension, who leads the Alternian Empire, and her heiress.
After being born, Troll grubs are subjected to multiple trials to insure that only the strongest among them survive. If they do, they will be adopted by a Lusus, a class of animals on Alternia that will raise them to adulthood.
Upon a Troll becoming an adult, they will be shipped off planet to become a soldier for the Alternian Empire and assist it in conquering other worlds.
