The Titans, also known as Ancients, are gigantic demonic beings that act as the guardians of hell.
Biology[]
The Icon of Sin
Titans are massive humanoids, standing at heights comparable to skyscrapers. Titans bear grey skin, semi-skeletal faces, two massive horns protruding from the sides of their heads and curving upwards, other spikes protruding from their foreheads and chins, and no lips. Their legs appear somewhat goat-like, although lacking fur or hooves. Their build is visibly muscular. Titans move slowly, appearing almost sluggish, but their massive size allows them to cover great distances quickly, and their strength is incredibly high, able to smash cities, battle Sentinel Atlans, and carry fortresses on their backs. They are known to be nearly invincible, their skin being completely impervious to Earth weaponry. The only weaponry known to be able to reliably harm and kill Titans are Crucibles and Atlan armaments, and in the case of Crucibles, Titans are able to resurrect themselves if the Crucible blade is removed from their bodies. However, Atlan armaments are able to permanently kill Titans, as is an unidentified method utilized by the Doom Slayer. If used against exposed innards of Titans, such as their brain, even conventional weaponry such as rocket launchers are able to kill Titans, although not permanently.
Some Titans are known to have been artificially created, with different abilities. One, simply known as The Titan, was powered with the essence of demons killed by the Doom Slayer, and another, the Icon of Sin, was created from the resurrected heart of an Argenta, had the ability to summon demon hordes, was able to fire large fireballs from its forehead, summon meteor storms, gain more power the longer it was on Earth, and could warp reality with its very presence, able to cause entire universes to collapse into black holes and be sucked into Hell. While The Titan appears to have borne a physiology identical to that of the other Titans, the Icon of Sin had considerably more plantigrade feet with three distinct toes lacking claws, although bearing claws on its hands, and most notably, a head resembling that of a skeletal goat. It is unknown if ordinary Titans are born or created, but they all appear to have an identical physiology and lack any abilities aside from their massive strength and near-invincibility. There was once a race of cyclopedic Titans, who are now extinct, and bear some similarities to Cacodemons, implying a connection between the species, although any true connection is unknown. The sapience and general intelligence of Titans is unknown, as most Titans seen by Humans were mindlessly following all commands given to them while being generally expressionless, usually commanded by Hell Priests, and appeared disoriented without the Priests. However, the Icon of Sin appeared to act quite independently, although it could've also been under control of the Dark Lord. The Icon of Sin was also known to be capable of speech, although said speech was demonic.
History[]
Titans are an ancient breed of demons. At some point in time, a race of cyclopedic Titans roamed Hell, but died off due to unknown factors, although some speculate that they live on, disembodied and in the form of Cacodemons. A cyclopedic Titan could have possibly inspired the Argenta legend of the Aggaddian, which later inspired the name of the Earth-native Aggadon hunters. When the demons launched a war against Argent D'Nur and the Night Sentinels defending it, a Titan known as the Dreadnought invaded Taras Nabad, the capital city of Argent D'Nur. The Sentinels were unable to kill the monster, but a Maykr Seraph known as Samur took an unnamed man who had recently joined the Night Sentinels into the Divinity Machine, granting the man superhuman abilities and immortality. The man, once an ordinary Human marine from an Earth in another dimension and a distant future, became the Doom Slayer upon emerging from the machine. The Doom Slayer took up a Crucible and killed the Dreadnought by stabbing it through the heart, preventing it from being resurrected. Throughout the rest of the war, Titans were used to attack the Sentinels, but were stopped by Sentinel war machines known as Atlans, which had weaponry that could permanently kill them. Near the end of the war, an Argenta commander known as Valen lost his son in battle, and was tormented by visions of his son's soul in torment. Driven nearly mad, Valen struck his own deal with the Hell Priest Deag Grav, exchanging the keys to the Wraiths that powered the Sentinels for the resurrection of his son. His son was resurrected, but only his heart was brought back to life, while the rest of his son's essence was used to create the largest and most powerful Titan yet, known as the Icon of Sin. For this action, Valen was forever known as the Betrayer, and exiled himself to Hell.
The remains of The Titan
The Doom Slayer and the remaining Night Sentinels were also tricked into being scattered in Hell, or forced to stand against the final offensive launched against Argent D'Nur, which was led by Titans. Many Titans fell against the Atlans, appearing to have expired just as the Atlans ran out of power, creating scenes that appeared to be battles frozen in time. Argent D'Nur fell, and the Night Sentinels not loyal to the Maykrs were destroyed, except for the Doom Slayer, who continued to fight demons in Hell for eons. Eventually, the Lords of Hell created a new Titan, second in size only to the Icon of Sin, simply known as The Titan, who was empowered with the essence of fallen demons. The Titan was used in an attack on the Doom Slayer, but through an unknown method, the Doom Slayer killed The Titan, its body remaining embedded in the Great Steppe forever. Living Titans were used in Nekravol to hold up a Maykr energy transfer device, with another chained up outside the structure. Another living Titan, known as Maligog, was seen in the Blood Swamps, guarding the Life Spheres hidden there.

In the future, the Icon of Sin, imbedding itself in a technological structure able to launch invasions of other dimensions, invaded Earth following a failed invasion of Mars. To summon more demons, the Icon had its brain exposed, as demons were summoned through energy cubes it would have to project through its brain. A lone marine fought his way to Hell, finding the Icon of Sin, with only its head visible, poking into the structure. The marine used rockets to destroy the exposed brain of the Icon, killing it, and the Icon's thrashing limbs destroying vast scores of Hell's geography. Its body was somehow moved to the Necropolis, where it remained for years. The marine would later remain in Hell voluntarily, somehow going back in time and across dimensions, eventually becoming the very Doom Slayer that the demons had fought for eons. As the Doom Slayer, he came across the Icon's corpse once more in the Necropolis, while on his way to retrieve the Crucible. Living Titans were used during the invasion of Earth, but used as Hell Barges, carrying fortresses for Hell Priests and being telepathically controlled by them. When Deag Nilox was killed by the Doom Slayer, his Titan dropped his fortress and wandered off. The other Titans were presumably sent away or left to aimlessly wander when the Deag Grav and Deag Ranak abandoned their barges and fled to different locations. Despite not being used as combatants, they proved to be invulnerable to conventional weaponry. The fact that they were only used in a rear-echelon role as transportation implies that the population of living Titans is extremely low, and that all living Titans seen by the Doom Slayer are the only living members of their species, thus prompting the demons to use Titans sparingly.

When the invasion was thwarted by the Doom Slayer, the Icon of Sin was retrieved by the Maykrs and brought to Urdak, where they prepared to revive it and were cybernetically enhancing it with Maykr technology. At the same time, they also had control of the heart of the Betrayer's son, which would allow them to control the Icon. However, the Doom Slayer had retrieved a special dagger from the Betrayer in Hell, one capable of killing the heart, and had made his way to Urdak. He killed the heart, reviving the Icon and freeing it of Maykr control. The Icon of Sin promptly leaves to invade Earth, breaking the Holy Seal of Urdak along the way. The Icon appears on Earth, regaining power as it walked, its very presence threatening to tear Earth apart and collapse reality into a black hole that would fall into Hell. The Doom Slayer followed the Icon to Earth after killing the Khan Maykr, fighting past the hordes of demons summoned to the Icon's aide, and fighting across the city atop skyscrapers, systematically destroyed the Icon's armor, then able to destroy its weakened skin. With its brain exposed once more, the Doom Slayer stabbed his Crucible through the brain of the Icon, imbedding the blade into it and killing it permanently. With the Icon dead, the demonic invasion of Earth ceased, and any other Titans possibly remaining on Earth, such as Deag Nilox' Titan, were presumably banished off the face of the Earth, as their presence was no longer reported by the ARC at the invasion's end.
A Titan defending Immora
Later, the Doom Slayer utilized ARC resources to travel to Hell and retrieve the Life Sphere of the Dark Lord, seeking to destroy it and end the demonic threat forever. To gain access to the Sphere, the Slayer passed a trial to awake Maligog, who then lifted The Slayer to the Sanctum of the Life Sphere atop a mountain. A handful of living Titans were used by the Dark Lord Davoth during the final battle between the Slayer and the armies of Hell, assisting Jekkadian Demonic Troopers, but were brought down by Sentinel Atlans, unable to stop the Slayer or the Night Sentinel army that accompanied him to Hell from breaching the walls of the city. Any Titan outside of Hell was destroyed when the Dark Lord was killed, leaving the fate of the Titan species unknown.
