The Race is a sapient, spacefaring insectoid race which seeks to colonize new planets to alleviate the overpopulation problems of their homeworld.
Biology[]
Members of this species are hexapedal insectoids protected by a tough chitinous carapace. Their blood is purplish and thick. Their heads are large and possess compound eyes.
Culture and society[]
Individuals of the Race possess deep-seated instincts for organization, cooperation, industriousness, persistence and selflessness. They live to serve the Race, which is symbolized by the Nest, personified in the figure of the Great Mother, Goddess and Queen in One. Still, they're not hostile to other species.
The Race cultivates a sense of morality that prevents them from conquering worlds by force, even as they need to constantly seek out new sources of living space for their ever-growing population. Instead, they prefer to make use of their terraforming technology to make inhospitable planets (or planets that have been devastated by wars and abandoned) suitable for colonization.
When faced with difficulties or injury, members of the Race have demonstrated remarkable persistence, as it's not in their nature to surrender.
Appearances[]
- Doctor Who and the Brain of Morbius, by Terrance Dicks (1977)
Notes[]
- This species appears solely in the novelization of the TV serial The Brain of Morbius. In the actual serial, the insectoid creature was identified as a member of the Mutt race, which had previously appeared in The Mutants.
- In spite of the above, the novelization still keeps the Doctor's line where he identifies the creature as a "mutant insect species, widely established in the Nebulae of Cyclops".
