Biology[]
Stone Chameleons are a pale yellow skinned race of reptilian humanoids. Males have cresting horns from their brows and temples and mostly have lizard traits like scaly skin and long tongues. while females are devoid of cranial ridges and appear more human and possess hair.
History[]
In 2012 an uprising occurred on an alien prison freeing thousands of prisoners. During the ensuing conflict, the guardians of the universe, the Peacekeepers, attempted to fight for control of the spacecraft, while the spacecraft was passing through the Solar System, it crashes into Earth's atmosphere causing a mass extinction event that destroyed civilization and nearly wiped out humanity. Those that survived on the planet were the scant human survivors and also the alien prisoners that came on the prison ship.
By the 30th Millennium, civilization has regressed to the Bronze Age, and Earth is populated by a mixture of human and alien cultures. Among the cultures that now dominate Earth, are the Stone Chameleons who in 2998, managed to establish a small city-state empire known as Stone City based around the remains of the Washington Monument in Washington D.C., Virginia. Neighboring it was the human city of Arlington ruled by Ingvarr the last descendant of the Peacekeepers. Originally the two cities were hostile to one another, however Ingvarr managed to forge a treaty with King ZIvon of the Stone Chameleons. Ingvarr intended to pass his title and responsibilities of Arlington and Peacekeeper to his son Donarr, though his son declined as he wished to explore the north.
In 3002 Ingvarr health had declined and he suffered a disease that was wasting him away. Knowing his time was short he sent ten men out to search for his son, however none returned, leading Ingvarr to expect the worst that Donarr was head, but still he held on to life in hopes of reuniting with his son. Due to his declining health, the former Peacekeeper was unable to prevent the Stone Chameleons renewed aggressive attacks on his city. leading to Arlington being plundered time and time again.
In 3004, six years later, Donarr returned to Arlington with his newfound friend Sherpa, to find it being raided by Stone Chameleons. Donarr and Sherpa managed to drive the raiders off, allowing the former to save his uncle Abraham, though was dishearten to hear this. At Ingvarr's deathbed, Donarr was urged by his father to take his mantle as Peacekeeper as his kind's responsibility to right the wrongs of the world and protect the human survivors. Donarr not knowing what to do, mediated in the ruins of Lincoln Memorial, where Abraham comforted him on his father's death and gave his nephew a brief snippet of the purpose of the monument and who it was dedicated to and what was sacrificed made. Abraham urged Donarr that only he could restore the power of law, order and equality to Earth and embrace his father's legacy.
Embolden with purpose, Donarr donned his father's Peacekeeper gauntlets, hammer and mantle. Together with Sherpa, he traveled to Stone City to end the hostilities between humans and Stone Chameleons. Upon approaching the gate, Donarr demanded to speak with King Zivon. Their entreaties for peace talks were responded by a laser cannon blast, causing Donarr to respond with a energy blast to the walls with his hammer. The two then managed to breach the west wall of the city, fighting off its defenders.
King Zarek having noticed the display from his palace then ordered the use of the experimental Z-Ray, much to the distress of General Zorn as it would kill his own men as well. His concerns were ignored and the Z-Ray was fired. Though it proved not to be needed as Donarr and Sherpa were soon immobilized by Lady Nois with her abilities. The blast from the Z-Ray instead targeting the nearby granary to the anger of the prince, killing the one who fire the weapon as punishment and to prepare the army to wipe humanity from the world.
Lady Nois brought the prisoners to her brother who she chastised for using their soldiers as cannon fodder, though King Zarek warned her that his tolerance for her behavior was thin. Donarr demanded to know where King Zivon was only for the new king to inform Donarr that his father was killed by humans while riding out in the countryside hence why the war of aggression against humanity. King Zarek then showed Donarr his plan to use a powerful gem his people had discovered ages ago from the founding of their city, which had been kept in storage by the previous rulers out of fear. Due to is power he intended to use it to wipe humanity and conquer the planet much to the shock of his sister and general.
King Zarek then ordered the prisoners to be taken to the dungeons. Meanhile, past the ears of King Zarek's loyalists, Lady Nois told General Zorn that they needed to act to end her brother's reign. Lady Nois knew that Zorn suspected Zarek in being culpable in her father's demise as he returned on the riding trip alone and blamed humans. With humans being slaughter and even their own people, the plans for the conquest of Earth, Lady Nois could not ignore any of these crimes which Zorn agreed.
Nois knew that the army would follow General Zorn, though the problem was the the weapon used by her brother would eliminate it if they marched on the castle. Nois and Zorn could disable the weapon, and would probably meet their deaths, but it was a risk she and her loyal general were willing to take to spare the lives of their people.
At the dungeons, King Zarek revealed he had imprisoned many politicians of the Stone Chameleons who were willing to honor the words of his father that political power be given back to the people. Among the prisoners was even King Zivon, Donarr and Sherpa while sharing a cell with the former king, listened to Zivon lamentations of raising a spoiled immoral child. Donarr tried to comforted Zivon stating that he was a good leader, but Zivon retorted that he should have been a better father.
At that moment Zorn and Nois launched their assassination plot, whilst the army began encircling the castle. Donarr, Sherpa and Zivon took advantage of the chaos to break out of their cells and fight the guards to reach Zarek. Zivon confronted his traitorous son, and despite his frail health proved to be a better warrior than Zarek. Before he could land the final blow, Zarek killed his with a blast from his gem to the horror of Nois. The remaining rebels were pinned behind a wall against the Imperial Guard loyal to Zarek, who then ordered his Z-Ray to target the army.
Donarr realizing that the cannon could not be afforded to fire, retrieved his hammer, and threw it at the cannon, ending its threat. Nois then avenged her father by attacking her brother, tossing him off the castle balcony leading him to fall to his death.
Months later, the government of Stone City was reorganized with Zorn being named Chancellor. To make amends to the humans of Arlington, he invited its inhabitants to Stone City, offering a seat on its council and becoming one nation. The offer was received by Abraham and accepted leading to humans from Arlington to move to their new city.
As for Donarr, he decided to take up his father's cause as a Peacekeeper to restore law and order across the planet. Beside Sherpa, he was also joined by Lady Nois who wanted to join in his adventure and quest.
Culture[]
Presumably a former spacefaring culture, it is unknown what mainstream Stone Chameleon culture is, but the ones left on Earth are descended from alien prisoners. After arriving on Earth, they pillaged the city of Washington D.C. to create their own nation.
Their culture is socially of that of the a monarchy where all political power lies with the king and his next of kin. Though the practice was eventually changed to be given to the people to make it a proper democracy.
While appearing technologically to the Bronze Age, the Stone Chameleons still retain enough technological engineering skill to salvage leftover technology.
They wield spears, laser cannons mounted on wall and also use small colored gems that emit energy blasts which they use a handheld weapons. These gems also form the basis of powering their technology and weaponry.
