Shantaks are gargantuan aerial organisms which reside in the Cold Waste of Earth's Dreamlands.
Biology[]
They are larger than elephants and have a head reminiscent of that of a horse. They are scaly with slimy skin and are carried through the air by bat-like wings. Their feet form two strong talons.
Cultural significance[]
Shantaks are occasionally summoned to serve as steeds. They are hunted by the Elder God Nodens and greatly fear Night-Gaunts.
Shantak eggs are considered a delicacy in certain parts of the Dreamlands.

Notes[]
- In the works of Lin Carter, Shantaks are considered to be the same species as the Fishers from Outside, as revealed in "The Fishers from Outside" and "The Descent into the Abyss".
