History Edit

Starting out his service career on the royal planet of Naboo, R2-D2 was personally utilized by the current ruler of Naboo, Queen Padmé Amidala, as a repair droid aboard her personal starship. The most notable use of R2-D2 would be performed at this time, as after all of his fellow astromech droids had been destroyed by the invading forces of the Trade Federation, R2 was able to successfully repair the Queen's hyperdrive systems just in time for the Queen and her royal escort, of which consisted of two Jedi, where able to quickly escape to the desert planet of Tatooine.

On Tatooine, R2-D2 aided Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and a disguised Queen Amidala in trying to secure a more powerful hyperdrive system so they could be able to make their way towards the planet of Coruscant, the capital world of the Galactic Republic. While attempting to secure the hyperdrive, Qui-Gon ended up running into a young boy native to the desert planet named Anakin Skywalker, who Qui-Gon sensed was incredibly strong in the Force. After winning Anakin's freedom as well as the new hyperdrive in a podrace, R2-D2 and the others made their way back to the Queens ship, and after having a brief run-in with a powerful force-sensitive Zabrak warrior, the Queen and her envoy managed to finally arrive at Coruscant.

After realizing that the corrupt bureaucrats in the Republic's Galactic Senate would be unwilling to help liberate her people from the Trade Federation, the Queen and her envoy secretly returned to Naboo, allying themselves with the native Gungan people to overthrow the Trade Federation and reclaim control of Naboo for themselves. During the following battle, R2-D2 would accidentally bring the young Anakin Skywalker into the massive space battle taking place above the planet. This would, however, prove to be useful as the young boy was able to use his abilities as a podracing pilot to make his way into the hull of the main Trade Federation droid control ship and destroy its main reactor core from the inside. With the destruction of the control ship, all of the Federation's battle droid forces on Naboo were shut down, allowing the Queen's envoy and the Gungans to easily overpower the Neimoidian rulers of the Federation and arrest them.

For the next several years, R2-D2 would continue to work with Anakin Skywalker as his personal droid assistant, seeing the young boy grow into a powerful Jedi apprentice to Jedi Knight, Obi-Wan Kenobi. In the weeks leading up to the eventual outbreak of the Clone Wars conflict, R2-D2 would continue to serve young Skywalker during his assignment to protect the now Senator of Naboo, Padmé Amidala, from bounty hunters. While protecting the Senator, Skywalker and Amidala would end up making their way to the planet of Geonosis, the secret capital world of the growing Confederacy of Independent Systems. While on Geonosis, Skywalker and Amidala end up getting captured by the Confederacy while trying to rescue a captive Obi-Wan Kenobi, a fate of which R2-D2 was able to escape from.
