The Pulents are a species native to the planet Gan.
Biology[]
Pulents are non-humans with an appearance that most humans find rather disgusting. They are hairless, gray being with leathery skins with long, pendulous noses and smelled of clay and chalk. They stood about two-thirds the height of humans and had dark beady eyes.
History[]
The Pulents are one of the most ancient races on the medieval world of Gan. They existed long before humanity came to Gan. After humanity came to Gan, the Pulents became their slaves and servants doing much of the heavy labor for its kingdoms and empires.
In modern times the Pulents served as the main workforce of slaves to the city of Av Palar, the imperial capital of a human empire that controlled various neighboring kingdoms. That changed however when the triennial imperial jousting tournament occurred in the capital where representatives from the various kingdoms and nobles participated for the title of Grand Imperial Champion. Whilst the nobles and their retainers were drunk on the festivities and events, the goddess Bhat and the lord of chaos Talus conspired together to cause strife in the human realm whilst the chief god Gansvater was distracted with other matters.
The Pulents were roused from their dull work by the goddess and took arms using various farming tools and attacked Av Palar en masse during the tourney. Under raging influence of the gods they went on a rampage through the city, and using their numbers killed many human civilians, knights and their retainers. Their rage eventually ended after Gansvater took notice of the chaos, which caused Bhat and Talus to flee from his wrath. Without their influence the Pulents had calmed down, however by then the Pulent mob had killed the imperial guards, and captured the emperor and his family.
With the emperor as their hostage, he was forced to bargain for peace. Though many nobles voiced refusal to the capitulation, but there was not much choice in the matter, as even the human priests feared that further retaliating against the Pulents would invoke the fury of Bhat.
After agreement was signed between the Pulent elders and the emperor, the latter was forced to kiss the hand of the former as a form of submission.
Culture[]
In their natural state the Pulents lives in caves or mud huts, subsisting on roots or hunted for small animals. Their culture was primitive and it was said that they barely had a language before humanity arrived.
Though after the arrival of humanity, they were converted into a slave race. Most humans in response to their enslavement of the Pulents fancy themselves of having brought the Pulents out of their misery of living in their natural state, bringing them civilization to them and thus the race should be fortunate and grateful to humanity. Though it ignores the brutality and exploitation the humans have done to the Pulents.
In more recent years the Pulents have seen a turn of fortune after heeding to the proddings of their goddess, finally receiving reparations when the Pulents launched a successfully rebellion. No longer slaves the Pulents have been raised to paid working class in the human empire. Even no permitted to become servants at temples an honor they were never granted before under imperial decree.
However their attainment of civil rights have not been met favorably, especially by the nobility seeing that granting concessions to be a mistake by the imperial family, wishing that the race was rather exterminated or banished to a wasteland. Though this mostly stems out of greed by nobles, having to pay for the new reforms by the imperials and losing much of their privileges, being made equal to the law to commoners.
Pulents are adherents to the goddess of death Bhat, and appear to be fanatically loyal to her, answering her orders without question.
