The Prophets, usually referred to by non-Bajorans as the Wormhole Aliens, are a sapient, non-corporeal species which inhabit the Bajoran Wormhole and experience time non-linearly. The native Bajorans worship them as deities. Another faction of this species is known as the Pah-wraiths, who were banished from the Wormhole and trapped in the Fire Caves of Bajor.
Biology[]
The Prophets are non-corporeal life forms which experience time in a non-linear manner, being simultaneously aware of the past and the future. As a result, from a corporeal observer's point of view, many of the Prophets' actions and motives may only make sense years or even decades later. They inhabit the Bajoran Wormhole (known to Bajorans as the Celestial Temple), the only known stable wormhole in the galaxy, which connects the Alpha and Gamma quadrants of the galaxy.
When interacting with corporeal species, the Prophets will typically appear as illusory images of people familiar to their interlocutor. They can also showcase images of the future and even transport individuals in time to the past or future. In at least one documented instance, the Prophets used their powers to make an entire fleet of spaceships vanish without a trace while passing through the Wormhole.
Despite being non-corporeal, Prophets and Pah-wraiths can be trapped inside physical objects or places. They can also voluntarily enter the body of a humanoid and control the host from within. When doing so, they can give their hosts the power to release deadly beams of energy.
The temporal disruptions caused by chroniton radiation are fatal to Prophets and Pah-wraiths, and can be used to free an unwilling host from the influence of the controlling alien.
