Promethean Knights are a type of Forerunner AI. Promethean knights were created by altering Humans and Forerunners with the composer and turning them into mechanical beings so that they are immune to The Flood.

History[]

Originally, the Prometheans were an elite order of Forerunner Warrior-Servants under the command of Ur-Didact. During the Forerunner-Flood war, Ur-Didact developed the Composer for the purpose of converting his Prometheans into artificial intelligences. Due to their loyalty to him, the Prometheans accepted the process, which incinerated their bodies and digitised their minds, which were later implanted into robot bodies.

As Ur-Didact had hoped, the new robotic Prometheans proved effective soldiers against the Flood, even boasting an immunity to its infection. However, their numbers were too few to make a real difference to the war effort. In order to reinforce his forces, as well as punish the Human race for their transgressions against the Forerunners, Ur-Didact unleashed the Composer on the Human population of Halo Installation 03 and transformed them into more Prometheans. Horrified by his actions, Ur-Didact's wife, the Librarian, apprehended him and imprisoned within a Cryptum at the heart of the artificial planet known as Requiem. She also reprogrammed the Prometheans to guard his prison, which they had done so for millenia.

In 2557, the Prometheans continued to guard the imprisoned Ur-Didact. However, they failed to prevent Spartan-117, the Master Chief, from unknowingly releasing Ur-Didact from his prison. Immediately after his release, Ur-Didact proceeded to retake control of every Promethean on the planet, and established an alliance with a faction of Covenant remnants. The Prometheans accompanied Ur-Didact as he left Requiem, reclaimed the Composer and unleashed it upon Earth, intent on converting the Human race to his army. Although the Master Chief defeated him and destroyed the Composer, the city of New Phoenix had been composed, its entire population being converted into more Prometheans. When the UNSC flagship Infinity returned to Requiem months later, Promethean Knights proved an ever-present threat to the Marines and Spartan-IVs deployed to the planet. During this campaign, the Infinity's crew learned the truth about the Promethean Knights, which they had assumed were little more than 'Forerunner robots,' and that many of them were originally the Humans who perished in New Phoenix months earlier. By the end of this campaign, Requiem was destroyed by the actions of the Sangheili Jul 'Mdama, although the Prometheans remained an active threat to Humanity wherever they found more remnants of the Forerunner civilisation.

A year after the apparent death of Ur-Didact and the destruction of the composer, the Prometheans broke their alliance with the Covenant remnants and fell under the control of Cortana, a human-made artificial intelligence who, after becoming stranded on the planet Genesis, discovered a 'cure' for A.I. rampancy and sought to claim the Forerunner mantle of responsibility. It was during this time that the Promethean Knights had been significantly upgraded, particularly in regards to armour durability.

Fighting tactics[]

Promethean Knights are extremely difficult to kill due to their ability to teleport. They can also spawn a Promethean Watcher which can shield them and revive them. Promethean knights wield many different weapons like Lightrifles, Suppressors, Incineration canons and scattershots.

As of 2558, Promethean Knights had been upgraded with enhanced armour, requiring the destruction of two rear nodes in order to expose the internal core before the Knight may be destroyed.
