Pao Paos are small proboscidean creatures resembling small furry two-legged elephants or mammoths that are perfectly circular in shape with ears that both resemble and function as wings, allowing them to fly freely. They are known to be docile and playful creatures who will happily help others and play with anyone they recognize as non-threatening.
Pao Paos have the unique ability to completely coat themselves in ice as part of a lengthy and undisturbed hibernation process, allowing them to completely shut down their metabolism and remain dormant for centuries to avoid disaster or famine, and this unique process allows them to even survive in the vacuum of space, with Pao Paos flying offworld and freezing themselves until they arrive on a new world to call home, with this ability having allowed them to spread their species across their area of the cosmos to countless planets. Some frozen Pao Paos have even been found encase in meteorites where they have remained dormant for hundreds of years.
Pao Paos normally only have fur colors that range to yellow, green, teal, pink, grey and white, although blue specimens also exist, but may not normally be born this way, with some having gained their unique pigmentation as a result of having been stuck in hibernation for thousands of years longer than other members of their kind, one notable example having been the Pao Pao known as Mofusuke who also gained a far more shaggier appearance than others of its kind with larger tusks.

- The Pao Pao species is designed after and based on the eponymous two-legged elephant "Pao Pao" from the 1973 anime series Jungle Kurobe, also created by Doraemon creator, Fujiko F. Fujio, along with Studio Ghibli founder, Hayao Miyazaki as a key character designer.
