Oum were a species of peaceful aquatic crustaceanoids or cephalopoids indigenous to the subterranean lakes of Maridia, one of the planet Zebes' many sectors. They were a curious lot and will constantly emerge from submerged piping, rolling around and generally getting in the way of sapients who may be traversing the area. Their exoskeletal or armored plating is extremely durable, and is in fact impervious to all known forms of weaponry that have been used against them. They have a set of tentacles that can be pulled back against the head and protected by an extendible armored sheath. These are most likely used in catching small prey, perhaps the multitude of Zoa.

As with all other species native to Zebes, it became extinct in the wild when Samus Aran finally destroyed the evil Mother Brain.
