Osmosians are a subspecies of Humans whose abilities are given by unique genetic components in their DNA. They were originally believed to be an idependent species from the planet "Osmos V" before this information was revealed to be an elaborate hoax.

Biology[]

Anatomy[]

Being a Human subspecies, Osmosians are mostly indistinguishable from regular Humans. However, they can develop black markings around their eyes after absorbing energy.

Artificial Osmosians such as Aggregor have four small, rounded, flesh-colored on their forehead.

Diet[]

Osmosians normally eat food to sustain themselves. They prefer savories over sweets.[1]

Osmosians with absorption powers are able to feed off the metabolism and life force of other living beings. However, this method of feeding can easily turn into an addiction, causing the Osmosian to become insatiable and instinctively seek out any possible source of energy to feed off of.

Powers and abilities[]

While not on the same level as Tetramands, Osmosians are naturally stronger than Humans, enough to violently knock other beings such as younger Osmosians and Amperi across a room.

Osmosians are durable enough to resist impacts and blunt force trauma, including being brutally slammed headfirst into a wall, that would severely injure an ordinary person with moderate discomfort.

Osmosians can transform into other beings at will. For example, Devlin Levin can transform into "Devlin 11", a duplicate of Kevin's first major mutation "Kevin 11".

Energy Absorption[]

Osmosians can absorb the energy of anything,[2] up to and including mana from an Anodite.

Osmosians can absorb the energy stored in other individuals, as shown when Kevin (in his Ultimate Kevin form) absorbed the essence of five captive Andromeda aliens (Ra'ad, Bivalvan, Galapagus, P'andor, and Andreas) from Ultimate Aggregor.

Osmosians can discharge their stored energy by projecting it out of their hands. They can also occasionally regenerate when absorbing certain types of energy.

Osmosians can infuse vehicles and other machines with their stored energy to activate or overload them.

DNA Absorption[]

Similar to their ability to absorb energy, Osmosians can absorb the DNA of other individuals, either directly, remotely, or through devices such as the Omnitrix. By absorbing DNA, they also gain the individuals' powers and undergo mutation to accommodate the absorbed abilities.

Osmosians can also absorb DNA by accident, as shown when exposure to feedback from the original Omnitrix granted Kevin the ability to transform into the aliens unlocked in the active playlist at the time. However, these instances at the cost of only being able to stay human for a short time.

By absorbing their DNA, Osmosians can also drain an individual of their life force.

Matter Absorption[]

Osmosians can absorb the matter of anything, with some exceptions (such as the Techadon Factory) from any part of their body.[2] They can even absorb multiple materials at once.

Depending on the amount of the absorbed material they have available, and how they distribute it, Osmosians can either coat at least part of their bodies in the material as armor or completely convert themselves into a living version of the material.

An Osmosian's strength and durability can be proportionally increased to whatever material they have recently absorbed.[2]

Osmosians can absorb the materialistic properties of living beings such as To'kustars, Petrosapiens, Crystalsapiens, Stone Creatures, and Evolved Vaxasaurians.[3]

Osmosians can alter their body, such as by generating spikes and spiked finials. They can also merge their hands into one and enlarge their arms.

Osmosians can shapeshift their hands and feet into different weapons and tools, such as battle axes, sickles, cleats, scythes, mallets, shovels, keys, maces (either spiked or non-spiked), golf clubs, lances, oars, machetes (either serrated or non-serrated), hammers, and hooks.

Osmosians capable of regenerating and regrowing any damaged or destroyed body parts, allowing them to grow back lost limbs.

Osmosians can manipulate matter to fill in cracks or holes by releasing a liquid version of whatever material they have absorbed, as shown when Kevin repaired the rock ceiling of a mine.

Osmosians can partially merge with the actual matter and manipulate the substance's form, as shown when Kevin fused the seal of a Prypiatosian-B containment suit, morphed it around P'andor, and fused the arms together as makeshift handcuffs.

Osmosians have the ability to spontaneously create more of a given material by absorbing it. By generating matter, they can also create objects, as shown when Kevin created a helmet to protect Sir George from Dagon's mind control.

Osmosians can transfer the matter they have absorbed to another individual, as shown when Kevin transferred his metal coating to Gwen Tennyson to release her from Dagon's mind control.

Osmosians can partially or completely encase others in matter without shedding their own coating, as shown when Kevin coated a truck driver in asphalt and fashion a helmet for Gwen to prevent the Lucubra from controlling her.

When absorbing rubber, Osmosians highly elastic and are able to bounce wall from wall. This makes their movements highly unpredictable, especially in a close quarter fight. Similarly, they become "sort of" elastic when absorbing elastic materials.[2]

When an Osmosian's rubber coating is burned, a strong stench capable of incapacitating Incurseans is produced.

When absorbing Varsidium, Osmosians can amplify sonic vibrations upon being struck by something like mana. This can also amplify a Sonorosian's sonic screams, enough to incapacitate several DNAliens in the process.

When absorbing metal, Osmosians are provided with immunity to radiation. Furthermore, if they absorb the material from carbon rods, they are able to regulate the radiation produced by beings such as Prypiatosian-Bs by absorbing excess neutrons.

An Osmosian's metal coating makes them resistant to high pressures in oceans, such as those found on Piscciss.

When absorbing stone, Osmosians are resistant to cold temperatures such as those found on Mikd'lty. When absorbing iron, they are immune to a Lucubra's mind control. When absorbing concrete, they become resistant to strong winds such as those generated by a Geochelone Aerios.

When absorbing liquids such as water, Osmosians will gain the properties of that liquid.[2][3] When absorbing mud, they can have objects pass through them without causing physical damage.[3]

Other substances that they can use their absorption powers on include bubblegum[3] and fire.[3]

Weaknesses[]

Any energy, DNA or powers an Osmosian absorbs will dissipate over time or through excessive use, so they are required to recharge.

Absorbing energy, DNA, or powers causes Osmosians to become insane.[2] Being drained of the energy, DNA or powers they have absorbed will restore their sanity, at the cost of making them exhausted.

Energy Absorption[]

An Osmosian's biggest weakness is their insatiable hunger for energy and becoming mentally unstable, and storing energy for long periods of time will worsen their instability. However, this is normally latent and becomes easier to control if they are mature and have experience with absorbing energy.

If an Osmosian is forcibly drained of the energy they have absorbed, it will present risks to their physical health if they do not seek immediate medical attention due to them living off energy instead of eating and sleeping properly.

DNA Absorption[]

By absorbing another being's DNA, Osmosians can only acquire the original creature's powers at 1/10th of their original potency.

Regardless of how much DNA an Osmosian absorbs, their own DNA will eventually overwrite the absorbed DNA in time, causing them to lose absorbed powers unless they keep reabsorbing.

Depending on their self-control, emotional and mental state, and number of DNA samples absorbed, an Osmosian may not be able to permanently revert from their amalgamated mutations.

For example, Kevin initially had trouble revert from his Kevin 11 mutation,[2] but eventually did so with Kwarrel's help. However, he could not revert from his Ultimate Kevin mutation as he had absorbed more DNA samples,[2] becoming more insane as a result.

Matter Absorption[]

At a young age, Osmosians cannot absorb enough matter from small objects to completely coat themselves. As such, they need a sample approximate to their bodies in size.[2] However, they seem to be able to overcome this problem as they grow older, allowing them to coat their entire body with just small shard of material.

Osmosians unable to use their matter absorption powers while wearing spacesuits such as those used by the Plumbers, giving them a major disadvantage in combat.

The materials an Osmosian absorbs can put them at a disadvantage. For example, absorbing liquids weakens their durability,[2] and absorbing wood makes them vulnerable to fire.

Osmosians are vulnerable to electricity, such as that generated by an Amperi, regardless of whether they have absorbed metal. Similarly, absorbing metal makes them vulnerable a Biot-savartian's magnetism, although this can occasionally be turned into an advantage.

Osmosians can be forced to absorb matter by coming into contact with an Absorption Band. Likewise, most of their absorption powers can be neutralized by devices such as energy cuffs or a power dampening headband.

Osmosians can be immobilized by ice, as shown when Kevin was frozen by DNAliens armed with Freeze Guns.

Osmosians can be rendered unconscious by sedative quills, such as those generated by Argit's Species.

Osmosians are vulnerable to snake venom. They are also vulnerable to strong winds unless they absorb concrete.

Osmosians can be crystallized by Addwaitya's crystallizing attacks

Despite their strength and durability in proportion to the material absorbed,[2] Osmosians can still feel pain.

Notes[]

  • The name "Osmosian" is a play on the word "osmosis", the physical process by which a solvent diffuses from an area of a high concentration through a semi-permeable membrane into an area of low concentration.
    • "Osmosian" also refers to the process by which living cells absorb nutrients; this is a reference to the Osmosians' absorption powers.
  • When their existence was first revealed, the Osmosians were believed to be an alien species native to the planet Osmos V. However, this was retconned in the Omniverse episode "The Rooters of All Evil", which revealed that Osmosians are a human subspecies and that both Osmos V and the sun Osmos were both made up by Servantis.
    • Correlating with this, it was confirmed that the Omnitrix contained Osmosian DNA.[2] This is no longer true, as the Omnitrix cannot accept DNA from mutants (arguably including Osmosians) because they do not count as aliens.[3]
  • When Osmosians were portrayed as an alien species, it was stated that they could live for hundreds of years and that would grow horns on their forehead as they mature, at about 100 years or so of age.[2]
  • The decision to change Osmosians from an alien race into a human subspecies was because the crew wanted them to be more in line with Kevin Levin's portrayal in the original series. Additionally, they did not want every aspect of Ben 10 lore to be derived from aliens.[3]
  • Because of the retcon, the Osmosians are how homages to the Mutants of the Marvel Universe and certain Metahumans of the DC Universe that gained their powers through natural causes.
  • It is speculated that Osmosian genes are recessive.[3]
