Orthopterrans[1] are a race of humanoid insect-like aliens from a dark unnamed planet full of spoilers.[2]

Biology[]

Anatomy[]

Orthopterrans such as Crashhopper resemble humanoid grasshoppers with green of a hue similar to quadrupedal Lepidopterrans. They have significantly large three-jointed hind limbs with green film connected to the tibia and tarsus of their legs. They have large segmented horns on top of their head and two smaller horns on the sides of the head where the eyes are placed. Each horn has three tiny spikes behind them. There are also three spikes on each forearm and the back of both tarsi on their legs. They have sharp three-fingered hands and two light-colored claw-like toes on his feet along with one on the back. Their chins are quite small with two lines, they have gill-like structures under their armpits, and their segmented neck extends from a green collar that is fused with their torsos.

Though they have never been seen, other Orthopterrans have been confirmed to resemble different humanoid insects of the orthoptera order, such as crickets, locusts, and wetas.[3]

Ecology[]

Orthopterrans are preyed on by Mucilators.

Powers and abilities[]

Due to their large and muscular legs, Orthopterrans are able to jump extremely large distances and create shockwaves when they land.

Orthopterrans do not have an endoskeleton, but instead have a durable exoskeleton that is filled with viscous shock-absorbing fluids that protect their internal organs.[3]

Because of how durable their heads are, Orthopterrans can use themselves as battering rams.

Orthopterrans can use the claws on their legs and arms to scale walls and other tall structures.

Weaknesses[]

Orthopterrans can easily become trapped in a Mucilator's sticky sacs, which they are unable to escape from without outside assistance.

There is a clear limit to the durability of an Orthopterrran's head, as they can feel dizzy from hitting an incoming missile.

Orthopterrans have a limit to how high they can jump from the ground.

If their legs are hit correctly, Orthopterrans can automatically be launched backwards.

Notable members[]

  • Crashhopper: An Omnitrix transformation used by Ben Tennyson.

Half-qualifiers[]

  • Kevin 11 3.0: 17-year-old Kevin Levin of the Prime Timeline transformed into an amalgamation of 10 random aliens from the current Omnitrix, including Crashhopper.
  • Crashocker: A Biomnitrix transformation comprised of Orthopterran and Gimlinopithecus DNA.

Notes[]

  • Although this species has not been officially named in canon media, the name "Orthopterran" comes from the alien gallery special feature of the Omniverse DVD "A New Beginning".
    • The name itself comes from "Orthoptera", an order of insects consisting of grasshoppers, crickets, locusts, and wetas.
  • During the development of Ben 10: Omniverse, Crashhoper originally had a white and green uniform that persisted in promotional material and the show's original theme song.
    • Derrick J. Wyatt worked on Crashhopper's final design along with Chap Yeap, despite not conceiving the transformation.[3]
  • It is confirmed that the Omnitrix from the Ben 10 reboot contains Orthopterran DNA.[4] Therefore, Crashhopper is one of the countless aliens whose DNA pod was glimpsed in the episode "Innervasion Part 5: High Override".
