The Onkifurt is a strange aerial predator native to the savannas.

Biology[]

Anatomy[]

The Onkifurt is purely an aerial creature, with many adaptations not well suited for terrestrial movements. It's able to float in the air thanks to its gas-filled sac on its back, which allows it to float, which itself can also be used as a weapon - when it is hunting or threatened they can launch a devastating body slam and discharge a burst of gas from multiple pipe-like organs at the base of its mouth to finish the opponent off. They possess both fingered hands on a set of arms, and a set of tentacle-like appendages on their stomachs. Male Onkifurts are solitary and rarely seen near nests, except in mating season.

The Onkifurt’s anatomy is optimized for flight; on the ground, its visual range is extremely limited. This evolutionary quirk can be exploited by the Trebhum to sneak an egg into an Onkifurt nest. Since Trebhum eggs are nearly identical to Onkifurt eggs, the Onkifurt will incubate them as if they were its own. Female Onkifurts will range to look for food and eliminate potential threats, but they will ultimately return to their nests.

Behavior[]

The Onkifurt, while slow-moving, is efficient at spotting prey and predators from the air. Upon finding a prey item, it will fly down close and snatch it up with its long tentacles. However, the Onkifurt is highly vulnerable if it so happens to land on the ground, making it an easy target for other predators.

Frightened Onkifurt will unleash gas from their pipe organs to gain a burst of speed to get away from the predator.
