NeptunianCity

Neptunians, a.k.a. Reptile Men or Saurians, are a sapient species from the planet Neptune.

Biology[]

Neptunians are an amphibious species that resembles a combination of fish and lizard, and whose diet consists of aquatic vegetation. Their ventral area is covered in suction cups that allow them to cling to underwater formations while keeping their limbs free to collect food. They can also cling to vertical walls and ceilings with their hands and feet. Their thick hides are impervious to bullets. Their respiratory system is adapted to filter out noxious gases from the thick Neptunian atmosphere and extract the oxygen that they need for breathing.

Neptunians are poikilotherms (i.e. "cold-blooded") and are born from eggs incubated in the heat of chemical fumaroles.

Culture and society[]

Neptunians make their homes in bubble-like formations that exist in the shores of their planet, to which they simply add an entry hole. They are lethargic and mostly solitary creatures, although some live in underground cities and make spherical houses out of copper. The biggest of these cities is Saurianum.

Notes[]

  • Created by science fiction illustrator Frank R. Paul, this Neptunian species was originally featured in Fantastic Adventures, March 1940. The accompanying article was titled "Life on Neptune". An additional article, "A City on Neptune", appeared in Amazing Stories, March 1941.
