The Nau were a species native to the planet Modia.
Biology[]
The Nau were a slender humanoid species with turquoise. They possessed six tendrils, three on each side of the back of their head. They were mammalian, producing a mohawk growth on top of their heads and a pair of horns that grew at the frontal cranium. Nau had the ability to speak through telepathy, not just through living things but through technology.
History[]
The Nau were native to the planet Modia, which they also shared with another species called the Zai.
In the Holistic Techno Era, both species lived in harmony and their world supported all manner of life. Giant trees served as power stations, powering lowland cities where both the Nau and Zai lived, rich in culture and diversity. At the time resources were shared and after eons of work Modia was a near-utopia.
The ideal civilization that the Nau built with the Zai ended however with the coming of Hoorth, the Wandering Black Hole, whose arrival ended the age of prosperity. Modia's greatest scientist tried everything to redirect the menace but the black hole was too strong and its insatiable hunger cost countless lives. Hoorth's presence in the solar system affected Modia, inflicting damage on Modia's atmosphere, rendering it defenseless and into the Collision Era. To make things worse, two centuries later a threat from the stars came, Primoris the Tyrant, who used the global panic to take control of Modia's A.I. Alpha 7 and turned the Modians technology against them.
Half a millennia later after the Collision Era, life on Modia was dying out. Primoris the Tyrant, who viewed everything on Modia as his ruled uncheck while the Nau and Zai lived on the brink of death. But even Primoris knew that his options were limited on Modia which was slowly becoming a dead world, and thus he sought to find a way to escape. While Primoris possessed the technology to leave the planet, he lack information on where to go in the vast darkness of space.
While initially content to lord over Modia, in the Year A.C. (After Collison) 483, he caught word that a strange cache of data was found by the Nau and may have originated beyond the planet. Seeing this to be a sign that another life-sustaining world existed somewhere in the galaxy, Primoris sought to determine it location.
Primoris had launched a pogrom against the Nau, to acquire the data but unfortunately his effort resulted in the genocide of the Nau, who fought against his relentless attacks until they had been rendered extinct. All save for a female Nau named Sen who found as a child and adopted into one of the surviving Zai clans.
In Year A.C. 503, two decades later an adult Sen went on a hunt for photosynthetic fuel with her adopted older brother Zakk, raiding materials from Primoris' robot sentinels near his fortress. The pair managed to gain a supply of water from their hunt, but Plasbot, Primoris's chief enforcer robot pursued them. The pair managed to elude being shot down in their ship, when sensors registered Sen aboard. Primoris having not seen another Nau for decades called off the pursuit not wishing to eliminate her as she may have the missing data.
The siblings managed to take their ship in Modia's orbit hiding in a debris field, when they came across a strange satellite. Due to Sen's biology and power of technopathy, her mind made contact with the artifact, bringing her to a strange dream-like world filled with odd scenes and junk. Zakk luckily managed to awaken his adopted sister, bringing her back to consciousness. Zakk initially wanted to leave the area and return home before another patrol spotted them, but Sen for some reason felt compelled to salvage the satellite. At first Zakk did not see any value on the space junk, but after listening to his sister insistent pleas of desiring to learn more of her origins, hoping the satellite was a Nau artifact he consented to help her collect what they could.
After much difficulty, the two managed to wrangle the satellite and crash land back on Modia with their prize. Zakk though spotted a down ship nearby and decided to check it out while Sen investigate their salvage. Unknown to both siblings they were being monitored by Primoris' drones, as he wished to have them unlock the secrets of the craft for him.
The siblings returned to their clan to inform their father, Zorr, that members of the Southern Clan had been killed on a salvage mission. Sen then showed her adopted father the Golden Disks she found aboard the satellite. It was peculiar as Modia had not sent satellites in hundreds of years so the items origins were a mystery.
A Zai analyst and Zakk's girlfriend studied the disks, and determined that the technology was simple, an audio container. However Sen once again fell unconscious appearing in the strange dream-like world, where she met a apparition of a human girl named Joi. In the waking world, Sen's adopted family tried to find what was medically wrong with her, worried that perhaps the disk were some sort of min-trap technology. However they were soon attacked by Plasbot who came to kidnap Sen for its master.
Sen was then brought before Primoris who through Alpha 7 revealed he gave the orders to hunt down the last Nau clan, as there was a Nau that was said to have gain telepathic contact with the alien data that he sought. Before Primoris could extract the data, Sen's clan came to her rescue. The battle ended with the clan seemingly killing Primoris and also liberating Alpha 7. However Zorr had been killed and passed leadership to Zakk. With Alpha 7, the A.I. managed to make contact with Joi in the dream space, and using the data calculated that the blackhole that was threatening Modia, actually connected it to another planet, Earth.
The surviving Modians were given a proposal by Sen to accept the invitation, to flee Modia in favor of Earth. The journey would take an unknown amount of time to reach Earth aboard Primoris' commandeered ship, but the surviving Modians who wanted to take the gamble for a better life boarded the one-way trip.
They arrived to a primordial Earth, all traces of humanity wiped clean. Joi as it turned out was not just a data construct, but actually a transhuman entity created from memory photons of a human scientist in a gamble by the human species to exist beyond death. Earth had been damaged centuries ago when the black hole connected it to Modia. And so in the period since the Collision, Earth had been rendered dead and took centuries to heal. Though the human race was gone, Sen hoped to find DNA samples on Mars to revive the species, as her fellow Modians carved a new life on their new world.
Culture[]
Modia technology was based on organic-tech. Plants were used to fuel their technology and equipment.
Nau did not actually use a verbal language to communicate, as they mostly relied on their telepathy.
