Mutants are Humans who, due to the X-Gene they are born with, possess superhuman abilities, or "super powers", and are said to be the next evolution of humanity. While some mutants maintain an identical appearance to Humans, some are visibly inhuman in appearance. As mutants are regularly victims of persecution, due to human xenophobia of them for being 'different', two major factions of mutants have been established: The brotherhood of mutants led by Erik Lenksher (AKA Magneto), who aim to supplant humanity and establish mutants as the dominant species of earth, and the X-men led by Charles Xavier (AKA Professor X), who aim to establish peaceful co-existence between humans and mutants and remove all bigotry targeted towards their kind.
