Monkeybirds are a sapient species of griffin-like creatures native to the oceanic planet Mer, specifically to the island of Pandawa, where they are ruled over by a queen. Elsewhere on the planet, they're usually found as slaves.
Physically, Monkeybirds resemble bipedal long-tailed primates with bird-like beak and wings. Their individual coloring is highly variable and includes red, orange, brown, pink, blue and purple. Their diet includes fruits such as minga-melon.
