A Metaree is a variant of Skree that was witnessed on the planet Zebes. It has been theorized to be a Space Pirate bio-weapon, although if this was true, it has not been seen since Zebes' destruction. Either way, it is now considered extinct.
Description[]
Metarees are similar to Skrees, with the exception of the metal armor along its sides. It can only be killed with Super Missiles, the Screw Attack, or attacks from directly under it. It divebombs foes when they pass below, but unlike Skrees, they don't explode when they hit the floor, and instead drill through, causing shrapnel to fly. If they are killed, they will explode however, which does tend to create the same shrapnel that is absent from it hitting the ground - this is because the shrapnel happens to be from the detonating body of the Skree itself.
