Described as the deadliest creature in the Cygnus IV system, the Megasoid is a sapient telepathic predator which reproduces asexually. It was also described as "the highest form of life ever discovered in space", as of 2011.
Biology[]
Megasoids are Gorilla-like avianoid creatures with a long beak that conceals a mouth with deadly fangs. They are facultative bipeds with a hunched posture and often engage in knuckle-walking. They have a shaggy coat of fur and a long tail. Their hands have three long dexterous fingers.
Megasoids are naturally telepathic. They reproduce asexually and undergo fast breeding cycles that may result in hundreds of individuals being spawned from a single one in very short periods of time.
Culture and society[]
Believed to be farther along in the evolutionary scale than Humans, Megasoids have a superior intellect which, combined with their telepathy, allows them to communicate and learn Human languages in short time. In spite of their intellect, however, their only instinct is to kill. For this reason, the capture of Megasoids was forbidden in 1986, and the last specimen on Earth was destroyed in the late 1980s.
Appearances[]
- The Outer Limits, s02e13, "The Duplicate Man" (1964)
Notes[]
- The Megasoid is based on the original story's Puudly. However, the name "Puudly" was recycled for an entirely different species in the same episode.
