Medic Drones (also known as Scalpel Drones and Lensmeter Decepticons) are an unnamed subspecies of insectoid Cybertronian Mini-Cons from the planet Cybertron.
Biology[]
Anatomy[]
Medic Drones share a similar biology to other Cybertronian Mini-Cons, except they are minuscule in size, resemble hexapedal insects, and transform into dissecting microscopes.
Powers and abilities[]
Medic Drones share many of the same abilities as other Cybertronian Mini-Cons.
Medic Drones have vast databases of anatomical and mechanical knowledge, which allows them to be familiar with most species in the galaxy.
Medic Drones are extremely adept at getting to the root of a problem and can handily disassemble most technological devices or life-forms.
Culture and society[]
Medic Drones are mass-produced Mini-Cons that usually work as medical officers for the Decepticons.
History[]
Scalpel served as the Decepticons' medic aboard the Nemesis during its mission to scour the galaxy for a Star Harvester belonging to Megatronus Prime. After the ship was damaged in a collision with the Ark, fellow Decepticon Sideways was heard calling out for him. The entire crew of the Nemesis then followed the Ark through a space bridge wormhole, arriving near Earth.
In 2009, Scalpel was transported to the Laurentian Abyss by Ravage and several Constructicons, consisting of Rampage, Mixmaster, Long Haul, and Scrapmetal. Once the Decepticons reached the sea floor, Scalpel was released from Ravage's chest compartment to assess the extent of the damage done to Megatron following his death and burial two years earlier.
After a cursory examination, Scalpel concluded that they would need spare parts to restore their deceased leader to working order. He then ordered the death of Scrapmetal, a request that Mixmaster and Long Haul obliged with despite their teammate's objections. Once he had crafted the "donated" parts, Scalpel slammed the AllSpark shard stolen by Ravage onto Megatron's chest. This action resurrected the Decepticon leader into a more powerful body with a tank-based vehicle mode.
Sometime later at a factory located in the same city as Princeton University, Megatron ordered Scalpel to examine Sam Witwicky in hopes of finding out what he had learned from the AllSpark information downloaded into his brain. Using several extremely invasive techniques courtesy of his assistants, Scalpel declared that they must dissect his head to examine his brain. However, Scalpel's attempt was interrupted by the timely arrival of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee.
Some accounts claimed that Scalpel was destroyed by Optimus upon the Autobots' arrival to the factory, others instead show that the medic survived and fled as the fighting erupted.
When Megatron sustained significant damage to his head while fighting a Jetfire-enhanced Optimus in Egypt, several Medic Drones were dispatched to repair his injuries by from the inside. Despite the tiny robots' services, Megatron would flick they away out of annoyance or crushed them between his fingers while seemingly bored.
By 2013, the Medic Drones had repair most of the damage to Megatron's head and were present when Starscream, Soundwave, and Laserbeak visited his base in Namibia, Africa. When rouge Autobot Sentinel Prime tore chunks of Megatron's head off during an argument, the Medic Drones travelled to Chicago to assess the aggravated wound. They were still working when Megatron had an audience with Carly Spencer.
Considering they were not seen on Megatron when he retaliated against Sentinel and was later killed for a second time by Optimus, it is unclear what happened to the Medic Drones. However, it is likely they were neutralized by NEST during the cleanup operation in Chicago following the Autobots' victory.
Alternate history[]
Scalpel Drones were among the Decepticon Soldiers who attacked NEST operative Vanessa and her civilian partner Jake while investigating their activities in Africa, United States West Coast, and Canada.
Years later, Scalpel Drones attacked the Autobots, Vanessa, and Jake in the road tunnels of the Decepticons' secret underwater base under the Pacific Ocean. When the Autobots headed to East China, Scalpel Drones terrorized them both inside and around Kinetic Solutions Incorporated's headquarters.

Notes[]
- The primary Scalpel's German accent, monocle-like eyes, and murderous personality all give Medic Drones the air of a stereotypical Nazi mad scientist.
- Although Scalpel was shown getting destroyed by Optimus Prime in the novel and comic adaptations of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, his fate was left ambiguous in the film itself.
- In Titan Magazine's sequel comics, Scalpel made in an appearance in the story "Inside Out!", confirming his survival.
- In the film Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Scalpel's model is reused for multiple Medic Drones repairing Megatron's damaged head. Given the primary Scalpel's ambiguous fate within the films, one of these drones may have been intended to be Scalpel himself.
