Alien Species

Martians are a sapient humanoid species from Mars.

Biology[]

Martians are externally identical to Humans, although Martian males display enhanced durability, able to withstand multiple blows from adult Humans without flinching or feeling pain. In addition, they are capable of generating invisible forcefields by drawing lines in the ground with their hands. These invisible barriers can be destroyed by erasing the lines that created them. Martians are also capable of telepathically moving levitating Martian rocks, and their brains appear to be more powerful than Human brains, able to override Human orders to levitating stones. They are able to clap without physically touching their hands together, presumably through some sort of mental ability.

Culture and society[]

Martians are currently technologically primitive, having abandoned advanced technology to create a peaceful society by cultivating their mental powers. They appear to have monitored Earth prior to abandoning advanced technology, as they abandoned their technology after seeing how Human technology led to the creation of weapons of mass destruction, and also know of a Human superhero named El Chapulín Colorado. Martian clothing is reminiscent of that of ancient Greece or Rome, consisting of white robes, himations of varying colors, sandals, and hair braids. While Martians appear dominantly female, their society is patriarchal, with a male serving as the Martian leader, wearing blue robes with one half a darker color than the other. The Martian language is identical to Spanish, and Martian architecture is reminiscent of that of ancient Greece. Martians are known to be afraid of foreign explorers, running from astronauts and not wanting to communicate with them, although the Martian leader was still willing to welcome Humans to Mars, on the condition that the Humans abandon or destroy advanced technology they bring, with the Martian leader willing to destroy or drive off foreign technology personally. Martian food and drinks are invisible, at least to the Human eye, and Martians are known to commonly drink alcohol, with Martian wine being stronger than Earth's alcohol. Additionally, Martians appear to have some sort of polytheistic religion, as they sometimes mistake astronauts for gods.

Technology[]

Martian technology was once highly advanced, but was purposefully lost. While lacking advanced technology, Martians commonly use flat, levitating rocks as hoverpads, with the Martian leader having access to a special diamond-shaped hoverpad presumably carved out of levitating rocks, equipped with a harp-like steering wheel atop a short column. This hoverpad, while not bearing externally visible weapons, has the capacity to instantly vaporize large spacecraft with the push of a button at the base of the steering wheel column, possibly a leftover Martian technology reserved for use against foreign technology. Certain Martian objects, such as wine glasses, coffee mugs, and spoons, are invisible, at least to the Human eye.

History[]

At some point in the past, Martians developed advanced technology, which enabled them to see Earth. Seeing that Human technology led to weapons of mass destruction, war, and other forms of damage to the planet, Martians resolved to abandon their advanced technology in favor of mental development, with what appears to be the last remnant of their technology hidden within a small hovercraft reserved for use by the Martian leader, Planetovulo. Eventually, two Human astronauts landed on Mars, accompanied by El Chapulín Colorado himself, who helped them get out of a collision course with the sun. A Martian woman who observed the landing believed that the gods had landed, telling a group of other Martian women what she saw. The Martians all went to see the shuttle for themselves, and one of the women told the first Martian that the ship was more likely carrying astronauts, frightening the two and making them summon Chapulín, who appeared near them, scaring off the other Martians. The two Martians attempted to explain their fears to Chapulín, although Chapulín tried to tell them that the Humans were not all that bad, only to slip into saying how Earth is plagued by war, pollution, economic inflation, and more. Hearing that, the Martians decided to get away from the astronauts, offering to take Chapulín with them. Chapulín decided to stay behind to figure out what the actual mission of the astronauts was, as he did not learn it, so the Martians left on a hovering rock.

Later, after landing some time away, the two Martian women spoke with other Martians, telling them of the astronauts while also saying they should remain calm. Then, the astronauts, who were separated from Chapulín and wandering around the landscape after their landing shuttle automatically took off without them, came across the Martians and were instantly smitten by them. The Humans introduced themselves to the Martians, scaring off most of them, but the two Martian women remained. The astronauts approached them in an attempt to flirt, only to be told to halt by the Martians, one of whom drew a line in the dirt in front of the astronauts, forming an invisible barrier that they ran into. She then made another barrier that left the astronauts trapped within a circle. The two Martians then left and met with Chapulín again, who tried to assure them that the astronauts would not harm them under his protection. When the Martians told him that they had trapped the astronauts, Chapulín resolved to set them free as to not create conflict. The Martians directed him to the astronauts, although Chapulín also fell for the invisible barriers, slamming into them. The Martians followed, explaining the properties of the invisible barriers to him, and were then ordered to remove the barriers. After the lines were removed, the astronauts immediately tried to move on the Martians again, only for Chapulín to stop them. The Martians stood by as Chapulín tried to fight the astronauts, managing to remove one's helmet, unintentionally showing that the Martian atmosphere was hospitable to Humans. The other astronaut, who was older and uglier than the first, also removed his helmet and looked at the Martians, his visage scaring them. The astronauts then beat Chapulín to unconsciousness with their helmets, making another move on the Martians, who ran off again. Chapulín, who collapsed atop a floating rock, then hovered away, passing by Planetovulo, who had apparently been watching the events unfold.

As Chapulín floated away, the Martians continued to be chased by the astronauts, calling for help as they ran. Eventually, Planetovulo moved to intercept the astronauts, blocking their path as they entered a small open-air area comprised of a few short columns, startling both astronauts. Planetovulo invited the two astronauts to eat with him and determine the conditions of their stay on Mars. One of the Martian women was asked by Planetovulo to serve food to the astronauts, first going to find Chapulín, who had woken up and managed to land his rock. She explained how to control the hovering rocks using telepathic commands, but when he tried to invite her for a ride, she responded that she needed to serve food to the astronauts, being treated as guests by Planetovulo. However, when she tried to use the rocks to take off, Chapulín used his mind to make the rock land again. While Chapulín tried to make the rock stay on the ground, the Martian overpowered his commands with her own mental power, taking off to find and serve food to the astronauts. Meanwhile, the astronauts sat with Planetovulo, who clarified that Earthlings were always welcome on Mars, but their technology was not. When questioned, Planetovulo explained how they saw Earth use their technology for destruction, while Mars instead created a peaceful society by having the Martians focus on cultivating their mental abilities. Planetovulo then said that the Human shuttle needed to be destroyed, but the astronauts responded that it already left. Relieved, Planetovulo summoned the Martian women to serve Martian wine to the astronauts, who were surprised to see that the liquid and glasses were invisible. The older astronaut accepted the drink, shocked by how strong it was, while the other astronaut asked for Martian coffee, but found it too hot.

As Planetovulo continued to eat and drink with the astronauts, he then noticed the Human shuttle returning, as its Earth-based mission control team managed to get remote control of it. Planetovulo immediately moved to destroy it, and although one of the astronauts tried to stop him, the other was interested to see how Planetovulo would destroy it. Planetovulo then boarded his hovercraft and took off towards the shuttle, as the astronauts rushed to find Chapulín and get him to help. The astronauts and Chapulín managed to get into the shuttle and take off, but Planetovulo was still chasing after them. Deciding that one of them had to face him, the astronauts forcefully "volunteer" Chapulín to intercept Planetovulo, launching him at the hovercraft. Chapulín managed to land on the hovercraft, declaring that he would stop Planetovulo, throwing several punches at him, but his hits had no effect on Planetovulo. Seeing how his hits had no effect, Chapulín tried to laugh off the situation, claiming he wasn't being honest. However, Planetovulo believed Chapulín, deciding that a violent solution is wrong due to ancient Martian morals. Thus, Planetovulo decided not to destroy the ship, although he did point out that he could've destroyed the shuttle with the simple press of a button, narrowly stopping Chapulín from clumsily pressing it himself. Planetovulo and Chapulín landed back on the Martian surface, as the astronauts also landed, coming to a decision to stay on Mars without the knowledge of Chapulín, although Planetovulo saw the astronauts depart their ship after landing. Back on the ground, Chapulín idiotically pressed the button on Planetovulo's hovercraft, destroying the shuttle. While in shock from seeing the shuttle destroyed, Chapulín was soon met by the astronauts, who told him that they planned to settle on Mars, managing to create a relationship with the two Martian women that once ran from them.

  • Chespirito s02e24b "Viaje a Marte (Segunda Parte)" (1981)

Notes[]

  • The episode appears to be an adaptation of "Aventuras en Venus" and "Aventuras en un planeta habitado por salvajes, que aunque parezca mentira, no es la Tierra," although both took place on Venus and featured Venusians. These Martians, one of several Martian variations in El Chapulín Colorado, filled a similar role, although Martians are confirmed to have males.
  • Mars, as portrayed in the episode, had an Earth-like environment, resembling a desert. The various Martian rocks also have the same properties of the Venusian rocks of the previous episodes, including being soft, able to fly, able to grow, and able to speak.
