Martians are a sapient race of shapeshifting aliens from the planet Mars.

Biology[]

Martians are a lime-green humanoid species with elongated heads and ridge frills on their skulls. Unique to Martians is their ability to shape their bodies in any form, making them shapeshifters.

In the animated series, the Martians have lighter olive skin, red sclera eyes, and no antennae.

Their 'true form' is insectoid-like.

History[]

Centuries ago a alien mother ship crashed on the planet Mars. From the vessel came the Sequids, a parasitic species that overtook other races. The hosts that the Sequids controlled had died due to old age, and the Sequids found themselves unable to control the Martians due to their shapeshifting abilities. Without a host, the Sequids were nothing but simple beasts and were in turn enslaved by the Martians to provide manual labor.

At one point a single Martian came to live on Earth, and became the hero Martian Man.

After his death by the hands of Omni-Man, and a subsequent alien invasion, Earth's governments began to focus on building up their space programs to hopefully counter any future invasions.

NASA sent a space expedition to Mars to collect soil samples. Due to the presence of the Martians, Invincible was assigned to shadow the astronauts to ensure their success and in case of any trouble with the local Martians. The astronauts were immediately captured by the Martians taking them underground.

Invincible in an attempt to locate them instead was attacked by a Sequid which tried to take control of him, but failed as his skin was too skin for it to puncture. Upon seeing this the Martians granted him an audience with their monarch.

Upon meeting Invincible and being informed he was part Viltrumite, a species unknown to the Martians, the ruler Mars informed the hero of the dangers of solids on Mars and that the astronauts would be executed to prevent a possible threat. Not wanting that, Invincible broke the human captives out of prison and escorted them to their shuttle, whilst holding the Martians at bay. The shuttle and Invincible escape, however one of the astronauts was a Martian stowaway who disguised himself as human. While the real human was still on Mars, take over by one of the Sequids, causing the aliens to regain their hive mind and launch a rebellion against the Martian, thereby enslaving their former masters.

Culture and society[]

The Martians overall are not a very friendly species. They developed a subterranean civilization. Due to their fluid composition, they refer other species that do not possess their shape-changing abilities as Solids.

Any Solids that are found on Mars are sentence to death, though this is part of an extreme precaution to prevent the Sequids from possessing a host. As one host could re-establish their collective hive mind and overthrow the Martians.

Known Martians[]

  • Martian Man
  • Shapesmith

Notes[]

  • The Martians were redesigned for the Invincible animated series, featuring lighter olive skin, unlike their comic counterparts who have forest green skin, red sclera eyes, and no antennae. The comic version of the species shares more physical similarities with the Flaxans.
