Martians are a sapient species of telepathic creatures which inhabit Mars.

Biology[]

Martians are short-statured humanoids with hairless skin, almond-shaped black eyes, four-fingered hands and no visible mouth. They communicate by telepathy. They can survive in an atmosphere breathable for Humans and submerge themselves in water.

Culture and society[]

In the past, Martians were an advanced species, and built at least one giant robot to defend their planet in case of attack. In the 22nd century, they are almost extinct, and the remaining ones inhabit underground tunnels and water canals built beneath a bubble 100 miles wide containing a breathable atmosphere.

Martians are friendly creatures and will help members of other species who find themselves in peril. They don't wear clothes. Their current technology includes spears and boats.

History[]

In the 22nd century, the Daleks invaded Mars, intending to use it as a forward base in their planned invasion of Earth. They were defeated by a Human inventor and time-traveler named Dr. Who, who found out that the Martian sphinx was actually a robot built by the ancient Martians to defend their world against hostile invaders. The Daleks' defeat on Mars hampered their plans, but didn't prevent them from invading Earth in the year 2150.

Appearances[]

  • Doctor Who Magazine comics, "Daleks Versus the Martians" (1996)

Notes[]

  • This comic is set in the same universe as the Doctor Who movies starring Peter Cushing. In the main Doctor Who universe, the planet Mars is home to a different species known as the Ice Warriors.
