Marauders are fallen Argenta Night Sentinels who remained loyal to the Maykrs during the Argenta civil war, being resurrected as demonic beings after the war.
Biology[]
Marauders, being resurrected Argenta, keep a Human-like build. However, their skin became discolored, appearing a sickly off-white, with their faces becoming notably skeletal, lacking lips or a nose, and with glowing red eyes sunken into their eye sockets. While the rest of their body kept their flesh and musculature, other demonic features include long, sharp, claw-like fingernails, black vein-like scars on their left breast, presumably due to a part of their armor being fused to them, a vertical line of spikes across their scalps, and four large horns, two of which curve upwards from their foreheads, while the other two point forwards from the sides of their heads, leaving them with no visible ears, likely lacking earlobes and hidden behind the side horns. Notably, Marauders became extremely durable, able to withstand incredible amounts of firepower before being killed, and they gained the ability to summon ghostly demonic Sentinel Wolves. They have been able to move at very high speeds, easily able to outrun Humans and most other demons, and occasionally, they can move so fast that they appear to become a blur. Marauders are among the few demons that are fully sapient.
Culture and society[]
Once part of a proud, honorbound warrior race, Marauders appear to have only retained their militaristic organization, and their blind devotion to the Maykrs. They are the only demons to wear some form of clothing, said clothing being Argenta training armor, although lacking helmets, with a mouthguard based off of the model used by renegade Night Sentinels. They are also the only demons who use non-cybernetic weaponry, such as Argent Energy axes and double-barreled shotguns. During the Argenta civil war, Marauders wore Praetor-like armor with uniquely-styled helmets that also bore their distinctive mouthguards. They are known to believe that the Slayer, their former commander, never deserved to be heir to the Argenta throne.
Technology[]
Marauders do not appear to manufacture technology, only use old Argenta technology, powered by Argent Energy, such as their axes and indestructible shields.
History[]
The Marauders were once Argenta warriors who made up the order of the Night Sentinels, who became heavily devoted to the Maykrs, a highly advanced extradimensional species who vassalized the Argenta. They presumably served alongside the Doom Slayer, a time-traveling Human marine from Earth, during the war against Hell. When the true intent of the Maykrs, which was making a deal with Hell for immortality-granting Argent Energy, was uncovered by the Slayer and other Night Sentinels, the Maykr loyalists did not lose their faith. When the Slayer and other Night Sentinels shifted their worship back to the Elemental Wraiths and organized a resistance movement, Maykr loyalists split the Night Sentinels into two factions: one loyal to the Maykrs, organizing under the Maykr-worshipping Deag Priests, and another loyal to King Novik, the Slayer, and the Wraiths. The Maykr loyalists, now known as Marauders, donned Praetor-like armor with distinctive helmets, and fought a bloody civil war against the Wraith loyalists.
The war concluded with most of the Maykr loyalists dead, and the treacherous Deag Priests tricking the Slayer and his allies into entering Hell, scattering them throughout Hell's landscape, where only the Slayer survived. The dead Marauders were then resurrected with the Maykr's Divinity Machine, converting them into demonic beings with greater power. The Marauders were then tasked with hunting the Slayer throughout Hell over many eons, but the Slayer tore his way through them and any other force Hell sent after him. Eventually, the Deag Priests, now known as Hell Priests, managed to seal the Slayer away in a tomb, unable to kill him, but able to keep him in stasis. The Marauders were presumably used for other Hell invasions across the multiverse. During the Maykr-led invasion of Earth in the 22nd century, the reawakened Doom Slayer went to retrieve the cybernetic body of an exiled Maykr named Samur, who had been critically damaged while leading the Armored Response Coalition (ARC) in a failed offensive against the demons. When the Slayer arrived at Samur's chamber in the ARC complex and takes his body, a Marauder used a portal to enter, scaring off all remaining Human personnel. The Slayer secured Samur in another portal while the Marauder faced him, denouncing the Slayer as both an outcast and a false savior. The Slayer and the Marauder then fought, with the Slayer soon killing the Marauder and leaving the ARC complex.
As the Slayer ventured across Mars, Hell, and Urdak on his quest to stop the invasion, a handful of Marauders were among the demonic forces that opposed him, with two being summoned by the Icon of Sin on Earth. However, they were all killed by the Slayer. More Marauders would hunt down the Slayer when the Slayer fought his way to the Luminarium in Urdak, continuing to chase him as he tracked down the resurrected Dark Lord Davoth, but were still unable to stop him. Finally, the Slayer tracked Davoth to the Hell city of Immora, breaching the city alongside an army of Night Sentinels. Within the city, two Marauders dueled the Slayer atop a platform, empowered by Screecher Zombies. The Slayer battled both Marauders at once, killing them despite the support of the Screechers. All Marauders outside of Hell were destroyed when Davoth was killed.
