The Maerk are a species from the planet Maerk.
Biology[]
Maerks were a species with four legs and two arms, with shallow ear openings on either side of their skull.
History[]
The Maerk's homeworld was claimed by the Troodons of Clan Pro'Lingar.
The Maerk lacking the technology to fight against the Troodons, found their world occupied by the aliens. Despite the similar appearance and culture to the Troodons, they were treated little better than animals and used for menial labor.
However their enslavement came to an end after the Terran Federation arrived and drove the Troodons out of the system. The humans and their Troodon allies then made Maerk into a protectorate, replacing the slave system with a debt system, though encouraging Maerk with education to improve themselves.
Due to the new regime change, a few Maerk went on to apply to Federation citizenship for a better life as well as track down their family members that were enslaved offworld.
Culture[]
Maerk were a Bronze Age culture with a social structure of tribes and clans. Their social units they were organized were called Septs which were led by Sept leaders who in turn were part of a main tribe. Septs of different tribes engaged in conflict with one another and occasionally captured other tribe members and sold them as slaves.
Their homeworld lacked resources to trade save for cultural pieces of art.
