The Kroern or Rentok Reitritz, which can mean either Rider or Raider as the Jedik-ikik called them, are a colonizing alien species from the planet Gromm.

Biology[]

The Kroern are humanoids not unlike humans. They had thick brows, and nostril slits instead of noses, two lower canines that jutted over their lips, and tapered ears. Kroern skin was the color of old silver.

History[]

The Kroern millennia ago targeted the planet 51 Golgotha as a potential world to colonize. The planet though was already inhabited by an intelligent race known as the Jedik-ikik. Using great Kaiju monsters, called Rentok, to traverse space to reach the distant planet, the Kroern began the first wave of invasion, destroying Ximortikrim’s sister city Mirkitromix in less than a day. Despite the destruction of a city, the Jedik-ikik managed to repulse the first wave no thanks to the city Ximortikrim warriors using thei Izz and numbers to fell three of the Rentok. After they dragged out the Kroern pilots they interrogated the aliens, learning of their plans of conquest of their world.

Despite the failure of the first invasion, the Kroern would respond by sending out more invasion waves, utilizing bigger Rentok to exterminate the Jedik-ikik. The natives responded by developing various defenses againt the Rentok Riders, creating the Doomsday Engine and the Fire Path. These two weapons helped the Jedik-ikik defeat the second and third invasions. However they did not dissuade the invaders.

A final solution was enacted, through the means of the Sleep Key. If the Rentok could not be destroyed while still in the sky, and should prove more powerful than our network of channels, then the final prevention would be the Sleep Key. It was a parasite created by the species to place any living thing in a deep sleep akin to suspended animation.

The plan was to trap the invading Rentok within the city of Ximortikrim, drawing them within its confining 30 meter tall walls sparing the rest of the planet. Once the Jedik-ikik in the city had retreated the virus would be deployed, and only the aliens would be affected. The Rentok would fall asleep along with the Kroern pilots, which would then be extracted by robots.

However a warring faction released the Sleep Key before the Supreme Conqueror could issue the command to retreat. They saw the Key as an opportunity for genetic purification, that it would put everyone and the Rentok asleep, and then they would cull the weak from their population while they were sleeping. In doing so the parasite affecting everyone in Ximortikrim, causing every Jedik-ikik withing 93 days, placing the entire civilization in suspended animation.

The Rentok also succumbed to the Sleep Key, in order to preserve their pilots they went into hibernation mode, hopefully until the next group of Rentok arrived. For four thousand years, intelligent life on 51 Golgotha was suspended in time. By the modern era, it was discovered by humans after an unmanned satellite known as the IV-104 or Anchor journeyed to the system. Upon discovering the planet, robots drones were sent down to study the pyramid structures of Ximortikrim. After the humans remotely learned what they could about the Jedik-ikik, an manned expedition was sent out, reaching the world in seven years time.

When the human arrived in Ximortikrim, they disturbed the stasis effect, resurrecting the Jedik-ikik and the Kroern in their Rentok, causing their war to resume. However due to the improper stasis on the Kroern, most of its pilots suffered biological failure, dying as a result. The single Kroern than managed to survive to meet the human interlopers, lived long enough to grant the humans its authority access to his Rentok, seeing that their species were kindred spirits in seeking to colonize and conquer the alien planet. Due to this the Jedik-ikik marked the human explorers as enemies.

Culture[]

The Kroern were a spacefaring culture that colonized worlds, though not with spaceships but with engineered living creatures called Rentok that served as vessels to visit other worlds and also to conquer them.
