- For Klaatu's species as depicted in the original, see Klaatu's Species.
This unnamed race is a noncorporeal, energy-based species. Its only known members, Klaatu and "Mr Wu", arrived on Earth on what seems to be a spheroid interstellar portable portal, tasked to punish Humans for their negligence over the Earth's environment by straight-up wiping all of them.
Biology[]
According to the production notes, the aliens' "rawest" form is a noncorporeal form made out of light. It seems also that they do have a physical, tangible form, referred by the production notes as a "lightbody", made out of hard light; however, it is suggested that there is another true form for their species, which Klaatu said will "frighten" people if shown.
Powers and Abilities[]
Environment Suit[]
The aliens have the ability to generate an "environment suit" of any form that they have DNA to use with (similar to Starman); it is presumed that they have a database of collected DNA samples as Klaatu's environment suit is generated from DNA sampled long before his arrival.
Unlike Starman, however, the generation of environment suit is seemingly started as the aliens left their portable portal (see below). As the suit is made, the lightbody eventually solidifies, degrades and reveals the suit generated within.
Powers and Abilities under Environment Suit[]
While wearing an environment suit, the aliens can hack and tap into electronics and electrical devices and even control the minds of the hacked devices:
- Klaatu is able to paralyze and control the mind of an operator of a lie detector.
- He also can connect into electronic devices such as security cameras, and even control their minds by telepathically generating noises to people linked to electronic devices.
- He can also hack into vending machines and cars.
Alongside that, he also have the ability of rapid healing, provided that the lightbody material is given to the wound, and he even can heal people as shown in the finale.
Technology[]
The aliens use a spheroid spaceship which is actually a portable interstellar portal (contrast with the Flying Saucers used in the 1951 movie) to travel through space. When these portals are flying, they look as if they are some sort of light. It seems that a lot of these have arrived and been planted on Earth for almost a century before the arrival of Klaatu and are also seemingly artificial intelligences as well, as it is shown that one of these sampled the DNA of a mountain climber in 1928, and that a sleeper agent of the same species as Klaatu, "Mr Wu", has shown to investigate Earth for decades.
The aliens also have advanced knowledge and prowess of nanotechnology and biotechnology. They have developed artificial nanoscale biological buglike creatures which can destroy anything yet they can also duplicate. These buglike creatures are also the material used to compose a race of robots which humans call "Genetically Organized Robotic Technology", GORT for short. One of these accompanied Klaatu in his invading visit.
History[]
A portal exists in a mountain as late as 1928; it was used to sample the DNA of a mountain climber. Sometime later, "Mr Wu" secretly arrives on Earth as a sleeper agent, taking the form of a Chinese.
Klaatu himself arrives in 2008 in New York's Central Park. As he arrives from the portal in his lightbody form, he was then shot, and then one of the GORTs accompanying him appears and acoustically "torture" Klaatu's attackers; the torture ended as Klaatu said "Klaatu barada nikto". Eventually, still in his lightbody, he was analyzed, and eventually his lightbody degrades and an environment suit modeled after the DNA of the mountain climber is revealed. After some interrogations which Klaatu escapes thanks to his racial powers, he finds refuge in the family of one of his interogators, Helen Benson.
Throughout the course of the film, Klaatu spends time with Helen and her stepson, Jacob, and engages in conversations with Professor Barnhardt. After observing humanity, Klaatu decides to sacrifice his environment suit to halt Gort's destructive actions. His portal then departs from Earth.
