Jhef is a red grain plant grown on a planet in the Moleculands. It is harvested by the Quiqui-a and coveted by many worlds for its uses. The jhef is what allows the Quiqui-a their extrasensory abilities and also can be made into delicious baked goods compatible with Human metabolism. It also can be grown around a host to act as protection and defense as used by Durin the Seer.
