Insecticons (sometimes called Insecticlones) are a species of insect-like Cybertronians from the planet Cybertron.

Biology[]

While also being a subgroup of Decepticons, Insecticons consider themselves a species unto themselves.

Anatomy[]

Insecticons share a similar biology to other Cybertronians, except they transform into giant robotic insects.

Powers and abilities[]

Insecticons share many of the same abilities as other Cybertronians.

Insecticons are capable of cloning themselves, creating a massive army of Insecticlones.

Insecticlones have abilities similar to those of their primary counterparts.

Weaknesses[]

Insecticlones lack the intelligence and individual initiative needed to be effective without the guidance of regular Insecticons.

If the beams controlling them are interrupted, the Insecticlones will disintegrate.

Diet[]

While they are fueled by Energon like all Cybertronians, what sets them apart is that the Insecticons are also able to consume both organic and inorganic matter, making them potential predators.

Notes[]

  • The "Insecticon" name has alternatively been used for individual Cybertronians who can similarly transform into giant robotic insects.
  • Several Insecticons were given alternate trademark-friendly names for various toys of several characters. For example, Shrapnel has been referred to as Sharpshot and Skrapnel, Bombshell has been referred to as Hardshell, and Venom has been referred to as Venin.
  • According to the Cyber Key bio for the Cybertron Deluxe Class Scrapmetal toy, the Scrapmetals are believed to be descended from Insecticons.
  • In the 2015 Transformers: Robots in Disguise episode "Metal Meltdown", the Insecticon design featured in Transformers: Prime is used for an inhabitant of "Decepticon Island", a stronghold made from the crashed half of the Alchemor prison ship.
    • The Insecticon has a black, bright-green, and teal color scheme that appears to match the Prime: Cyberverse Commander Class Bombshock toy. However, the colors are laid out entirely differently, arguably making this incidental a separate character.
  • Given how the Insecticons featured in Transformers: Cyberverse came from Megatron X's timeline, it is uncertain whether they also exist in the primary Cyberverse universe.
  • Although all of the Insecticons featured in Cyberverse share a design based on Generation 1 Shrapnel, only the purple and yellow one has been officially identified as Shrapnel. As for the other two, it has not been made clear which is Kickback and which is Bombshell, as neither of their identities have been definitively stated on the show beyond being name-dropped by Megatron in the episode "Silent Strike". As of this writing, none of the show's staff has chimed in to clear up the matter.
    • However, one of the other Insecticons has a brown and green color scheme that appears to be inspired by Kickback from the 2015 Transformers: Robots in Disguise cartoon. This likely indicates that this Insecticon in meant to be the Cyberverse incarnation of Kickback.
    • By process of elimination, the Cyberverse incarnation of Bombshell would have to the blue and red Insecticon whose color scheme appears to resemble an inverted version of fellow Insecticon Zaptrap.
