Those species evolved on Harlan's World in Milky Way Galaxy long before Humans. Soon before they extinction they have formed first societies and complicated systems of believes based on planet's 3 moons. They went extinct after rise of water level due to planet's global warming.
After their extinction, their homeworld was colonised by Martians and later Humans.
