The giant aliens are a sapient species of giant humanoids from an unnamed planet.
Biology[]
The giant aliens have a Human-like external appearance, although they stand at about 22 meters tall, estimated by the size of Humans compared to them. Their large stature appears to give them a notable resilience to Human-sized handheld energy weapons, which only leave small radiation burns on the skin of this species. The fact that the Humans who landed on the giants' homeworld wore armored pressure suits could mean that the atmosphere that the giant aliens live in is inhospitable to Humans. Giant aliens also have incredible strength, enough for even their elderly members to easily smash Human-scale spacecraft.
Culture and society[]
The only member of this species encountered by Humans lived a solitary life in a farmhouse, caring for herself for many years. If this is representative of her species, then the giant aliens have an agrarian society with little industrial developments, lacking running water, electricity, or gas. However, it is also possible that other members of the giant aliens are technologically advanced, and that the elderly female was an exception. The language of this species is unknown, and presumably extremely distinct from any Earth language.
History[]
At some point in the future, the US Air Force launched a probe designated as US Air Force Space Probe No. 1 with two astronauts, one named Gresham, into deep space. The craft arrived at the homeworld of the giant aliens, aiming for a very rural and underdeveloped area with only one known house, which was the residence of an elderly, impoverished female member of this species. She was preparing some giant vegetables in a pot when she heard a loud sound on her roof, which was the ship landing. When she went to investigate, she found the craft, which appeared to be a miniature flying saucer, and saw a Human astronaut, a small being to her, exit the craft. The astronaut attempts to interact with her, appearing to be waving to her, but the frightened giant kicked him down the open trapdoor. The other astronaut, who had exited the craft, took it as an act of hostility, firing at the giant with some sort of energy weapon. The giant retreats as the two astronauts begin attacking her, using their guns and the giant knives in the kitchen to injure her. However, the giant manages to trap one of the astronauts, Gresham, in a blanket and beats him to death, as the other astronaut retreats to the ship. The giant takes a hatchet and follows the astronaut to the ship, where she proceeds to start smashing the craft with the hatchet. She suddenly stops as she hears a voice from within. The astronaut tells an unseen superior via a communications uplink that the planet they had landed on houses an undefeatable race of giants that have killed Gresham, and warns against a counterattack. The giant destroys the rest of the craft and the other astronaut, before leaving the roof of the house.
Appearances[]
- The Twilight Zone s02e15, "The Invaders" (1961)
Notes[]
- They are the smallest of the giant alien species to appear in The Twilight Zone.
- "The Invaders" was presented in a manner that tricked the audience into thinking that the giant alien woman was a Human being attacked by 15 centimeter tall aliens. The giant alien never spoke on-screen, possibly because her language is unfamiliar to Humans and would've immediately revealed that she was an alien.
