The creatures' leech-like stage.
The creatures' predatory stage.
An unidentified species of worm-like creatures was the only type of fauna that evolved on the Genesis Planet, created as a result of the Genesis Device's detonation inside the Mutara Nebula.
Like everything else on the planet, the creatures evolved in surges and changed radically over the course of a few days. They were rendered extinct when the whole planet exploded as a result of its instability.
Biology[]
These creatures originated as microbes present on the surface of the USS Enterprise's torpedo casing in which the body of Captain Spock was placed as part of his funeral service. The torpedo casing was launched in space and towards the Genesis Planet, where the Genesis Device caused the microbes to evolve, as well as reviving and rejuvenating Spock's body.
When encountered by David Marcus and Saavik, the evolved microbes appeared as flattened leech-like creatures. Later on, when encountered by the Klingons, they had already transformed into larger, worm-like predators, which attacked Commander Kruge and tried to strangle him. The worms' blood is dark green in color.
