Gatlians are a race of sentient weapons from the video game High On Life.
Biology[]
Gatlians are a variety of different, yet sentient alien weapons that are capable of verbal communication with varying other lifeforms capable of holding them. Like many species, they are infected with translator microbes that can be transmitted with a fluid exchange, such as spitting in someone's face. Prior to this however, the Gatlian can be heard speaking in a typical alien language.
Not all Gatlians are the same, as they possess varying forms and functions, such as Kenny, who serves as a sidearm, or Knifey who serves as a melee weapon (however Knifey's species is debatable since Gatlians are typically gun-shaped and function as such), or Gus who serves as a shotgun, or Sweezy who serves as a rapid-fire pistol with explosive ammo, or Creature, who serves as a projectile, or Lezduit, who serves as a powerful energy blaster.
Gatlians also possess their own respective personality, like Knifey's crazy violent and stabbing-obsessed nature or even Sweezy's rather narcissistic and rude behavior. Immune gatlians under the control of the Cartel are typically outfitted with an inhibitor chip that keeps the Gatlians from talking and to function only for the user they're assigned to, those gatlians are usually used by high-ranking members of the G3, while brain-dead gatlians are permanently grafted to their user, who is usually a low-ranking G3 minion. A fruit referred to as Gatterall is also used by the Gatlians as both a form of ammunition (more precisely, a quick recharge for their Trick Hole) and a source of food.
Gatlians also possess what they call a Trick Hole, which is a special ability unique to every Gatlian, which consists of a special shot that is usually quick to recharge but takes time to recharge in battles due to stress, Kenny's Trick Hole is a Glob shot, which is a curved explosive shot, Gus' is a disc shoot, which shoots a disc that can stick to certain walls and can be deflected with Knifey, Sweezy's Trick Hole is a Time Bubble that can slow time for enemies and objects, it can also explode when shot at repeatedly, Creature's Trick Hole is a Hypno Baby that can mind control an enemy, but Lezduit's Trick Hole is unknown.
Gatlians are also pretty durable, as Kenny was able to withstand the blast of an atomizer bomb shoved inside of Garmantuous' rectum, however, it should be noted that Garmantuous was said to have thick-skin like armor, so it may be possible that his insides shielded Kenny in some way.
History[]
Gatlians hail from the planet of Gatlus, a planet isolated on an asteroid belt's far edge. It was completely untouched by other interstellar civilizations, but this all changed when the alien smuggler, Rel Delmar, crash landed on the planet. With aid from Kenny, Rel's vessel was repaired and he offered him a spot in his crew. Rel had dealings all over the galaxy, including with the G3 Cartel and their leader, Garmantuous. The cartel leader had never seen an alien like Kenny before. Gullibly, Kenny led the cartel to Gatlus, where a battle ensued, leading victory for the Gatlians at first. This all changed when the Cartel returned with the aid of Dr. Gurgula, who unleashed a supervirus on the planet, changing most of the population into brain-dead zombies, with only a handful being immune and forming a resistance, led by Lezduit, one of the toughest Gatlians. Lezduit was then killed and Kenny told him what he did prior to his death.
The immune and brain-dead Gatlians alike were then captured by the G3, the brain-dead were grafted on the arms of low-rank G3 members. The immune, like Kenny and the other guns in the game, however, were only outfitted with inhibitor chips that prevented them from talking at all or functioning for anyone besides the user they are assigned to. One day, Garmantuous came to Earth with Nipulon, Dr. Giblets and Rel, who presumably lead them here, to test the quality of humans as drugs, and after Garmantuous tried Mr. Pilfrey, a local human, Rel was killed by Nipulon, in what appeared to be a double-crossing by Garmantuous, his fall dislodged the inhibitor chip a little, allowing Kenny to speak for the first time in probably years.
Known Members[]
- Kenny: Kenny is the primary sidearm of the protagonist, who infects them with the translator microbes, allowing them to understand every alien. He begins aiding the player to kill off the G3 Cartel. The player is capable of performing trick shots with Kenny as well as standard killing.
- Knifey (Debatable): An Australian speaking knife, Knifey derives pleasure from murder and looks to satisfy his thirst for blood, he is also foul mouthed. Aside from being a melee weapon, Knifey also serves as a tether, capable of reaching areas normally inaccessible in terms of height, as well as swinging across obstacles, but also deflect shots from opponents. It should be noted that his status as a Gatlian is debatable, as he doesn't remember what species he belongs to and wonders if he is Gatlian or not.
- Gus: A much larger variant of a Gatlian, Gus is the equivalent of a shotgun, while also being capable of shooting disks into walls to aid in scaling areas and sucking enemies in the direction of the player if they are in unreachable areas (in Goopsuck mod: it steals the armor but no longer brings them towards the player).
- Sweezy: A rude and narcissistic Gatlian, Sweezy is also a pistol, but unlike Kenny, Sweezy has a rapid-fire and is capable of creating time bubbles to slow down the speed of specific hazards, such as fans, her crystals can also explode when using a melee weapon, such as Knifey.
- Creature: A kind and rather energetic, quick-forgiving Gatlian, Creature is one Gatlian who has seen better days. He is among many who have been experimented upon, allowing him to birth small "children" which can aid in taking down obstacles and foes. (His mods are Heartsap, Lamaze Launcher and Neonatal Eruption, the first makes his children take some health from an enemy they kill, the second makes him shoot 3 babies at once on full charge, and the third makes the babies explode when they die)
- Lezduit: A Gatlian who's clearly seen better days, Lezduit is a strong member of his race, despite the fact that like Groot, can only say his name due to Gene Flipping up his speech centers. He is capable of generating multiple energy blasts to take out opponents. When he speaks, he also sounds like Sylvester Stallone.
