Gargoyles are a species related to the Imps, formed in Argent D'Nur to get past the fortified Sentinel cities, later becoming a denizen of Hell.
Biology[]
Gargoyles are lanky, emaciated humanoids, with a perpetually hunched stature and a long neck sporting spikes. Their lower jaw splits into two parts. Their hands and feet appear to bear only three digits, and their backs have a pair of bat-like wings with reddish patagium, in contrast to their pale bodies. They are capable of flying, hovering, running at high speeds, and shooting acid from their mouths in single shots or rapid bursts. Despite their lanky frames, they appear to be able to carry Human-like beings into the air, likely in groups, and are possibly carnivorous, as they were known to capture Argenta civilians and carry them off. They have been described as being related to Imps, bearing a similar leg structure, and hunt in packs. If struck in the air, they will be stunned and fall to the ground.
History[]
Gargoyles, despite their demonic relations, arose on Argent D'Nur, possibly artificially created for the sole purpose of bypassing Sentinel fortifications. They were one of the few demonic races able to get over the walls, attacking Argenta civilians and carrying them off, either for food or for use in Hell. For centuries, they plagued Argent D'Nur, and Night Sentinels organized marksmen to pick them off in the air, utilizing weapons such as Ballistas. At an unknown point in time, Gargoyles had sharp metal blades crudely grafted onto their hands. When Argent D'Nur fell due to the treachery of the Maykrs, the world was partially absorbed into Hell, and Gargoyles became spread out through both Hell and Argent D'Nur, being among the demonic forces that launched a relentless attack on a Human known as the Doom Slayer and his allies, who were trapped in Hell by the very Argenta Deag Priests who had been their allies, turned to Hell Priests serving the Maykrs. While the other Sentinels were eventually killed, the Doom Slayer continued fighting the demons throughout several eons, as he had been converted into an immortal superhuman being. Eventually, the Doom Slayer was locked away in a sarcophagus, held in stasis deep in Hell, before being retrieved in 2149 by Samur, now in the body of a Human cyborg named Samuel Hayden. When the Maykrs ordered the invasion of Earth, Gargoyles were also present on Earth as a part of the invasion force, fighting against the Armored Response Coalition (ARC) alongside other demonic forces, driving it to the brink of destruction. The Doom Slayer then came to combat the attack, venturing to Argent D'Nur to retrieve some tools he needed from a former comrade of his, Commander Valen, killing Gargoyle hordes across Hell and Argent D'Nur, then encountering more Gargoyles across Earth and Mars, killing them wherever he found them and saving the ARC from destruction. Gargoyles were called to the aid of the Icon of Sin during its assault on Earth, but were no match for the Slayer, and after the Icon was killed, Gargoyles were slowly eradicated from the face of the Earth by the ARC and other resistance forces. However, many were still present on Earth and Argent D'Nur, fighting the Doom Slayer as he traveled across both worlds to get to the Hell city of Immora. Gargoyles were called to the defense of Immora, taking positions alongside Jekkadian Demonic Troopers, fighting against the Doom Slayer and the army of Night Sentinels that accompanied him. Many more hordes of Gargoyles were killed in the battle. After the Dark Lord Davoth was killed, all Gargoyles outside of Hell were destroyed.
