The Ganymede Sea Rat is a kind of large mammalian creature which dwells in the oceans of Ganymede, a moon of Jupiter. It looks mostly like a seal with a rodent face, and was one of the main sources of food for the moon's colonists in the early years of space exploration. As a result the species became endangered.

Fortunately for the Sea Rat, its rather unpleasant taste experienced a rapid decline in popularity since Ganymede began to establish commercial routes with other colonies, and other kinds of food became widely available. Some people still hunt them, though, despite them being endangered, since they are now considered a traditional Ganymedean dish. Many environmentalists violently oppose the consumption of the Sea Rat.
