Gamets are a species of aerial, pit-dwelling insectoid indigenous to the subterranean sectors of the planet Zebes. Two hues were known to exist: red and violet, either indicating closely related subspecies, sexual dimorphism, incomplete metamorphic alteration, or a hardening of the carapace over time. They typically could be found living in large colonies within former colonial air ducts and like many other Zebesian hive-oriented fauna, they would protect their homes with ample ferocity. They will continue to bombard their foes with their seemingly endless numbers - usually in sets of three at a time - until the threat flees. Strangely, Gamets seem to only inhabit floor-based ducts; the reason behind this is not well understood as one cannot get close enough to the hive to check on it.
As with all other species native to Zebes, it became extinct in the wild when Samus Aran finally destroyed the evil Mother Brain.
