Martians are a mysterious humanoid species from Mars, with agents placed on Earth under the guise of Humans, claiming to come in peace.
Biology[]
Martians appear externally indiscernible from Humans. Despite evolving in the Martian environment, they are perfectly capable of surviving in Earth's atmosphere.
Culture and society[]
Little is known of Martian society, other than they place agents on other planets they are investigating, observing the native species and lifestyle. Their true motives of doing so are unknown, although they claim to have come in peace, and note Humans as "not being ready" to use Martian technology. Martian names consist of a short string of numbers rather than letters. They also know of a Human superhero known as El Chapulín Colorado, noting that he is famous across the Sol System.
Technology[]
Martians have access to highly advanced technology. Their spacecraft are shaped like green flying saucers with a thin white line running across its midsection and red pilot canopies, capable of flying between planets utilizing manual controls. Another technology is a wrist console, referred to as a magnetic pulser, capable of functioning as both a translator and a method of controlling the arm of whoever wears it. The device appears to be a normal watch, with the exception of a black dial in place of a clock face, and turning it can enable Martians to speak languages such as French and Spanish. In addition, a radio-like device can be used to remotely control the actions of the wearer's arm through magnetic vibrations, even from a great distance, overriding any thoughts or impulses the wearer has, capable of making their arm flail erratically, gesture, and strike others.
The only known Martian weapon is a handheld energy weapon taking the form of a futuristic gold pistol with a thin barrel, a small scope, and what appear to be several vents and a blue light on its backside, where a hammer would be, although the weapon's intensity does not appear lethal. Instead, it gradually paralyzes targets with each shot, one limb at a time, before making them fully freeze and black out for an unknown period of time. It is unknown if the weapon is capable of producing lethal intensities, and the energy it fires is invisible, at least to the Human eye. Additional Martian technology includes teleporters presumably built into their spacecraft, capable of teleporting Martians to and from their ships in flashes of light and smoke, also appearing to be remotely operated. While Martians normally teleport in an upright position from the ground, they are capable of teleporting onto objects in a sitting position.
History[]
At some point in time, Martians began to observe Earth for unknown reasons, learning of El Chapulín Colorado due to his interplanetary fame, but never learning of his appearance. At leas two Martian agents, consisting of an unidentified male and a female named 6218, were placed on Earth. In the 1970s, their ship was spotted by a navy sailor over Mexico, although his claim was not believed by the men at the pub he had just exited. The navy sailor, believing the Martians to be invaders, summoned an insect-themed superhero named El Chapulín Colorado for assistance. Chapulín did not believe the sailor either, until he saw the saucer for himself. However, Chapulín idiotically accused the sailor of being a Martian upon being told that Martians could bear Human appearances, chasing the sailor right past the two real Martians, who had teleported to the ground with Human clothing. The male noted that Chapulín is the first Human they have seen with antennae, and 6218 responded in Martian, prompting the male to silence her and remind her not to speak Martian on Earth. 6218 adjusted the translation setting on her magnetic pulser, first getting to French, before changing to Spanish, which was used in the region. The male berated 6218 for not learning how to use the magnetic pulser, and the two agreed to look for Chapulín, teleporting back to their ship. Meanwhile, the sailor and Chapulín had run back to the pub, with Chapulín being confused for a Martian by the other patrons. Once all the patrons had cleared out, 6218 teleported into the bar, sitting atop the counter. She introduced herself to Chapulín, who was confused by her name, and confirmed that he was El Chapulín Colorado. With his identity confirmed, 6218 teleported away from the bar.
Chapulín, not realizing she was a Martian, soon ran outside after mistaking a tall tale-telling scuba diver for a Martian, running into the male Martian and repeatedly slapping him in fright. The Martian did not react, until Chapulín said he had just seen a Martian. Believing that Chapulín was referring to him and 6218, the Martian noted that Chapulín's fame was warranted for knowing he was a Martian, assuming that only a powerful being would be able to know that just by looking at the Martian. The Martian, claiming to have initially come in peace, drew his gun on Chapulín, who did not believe the weapon was authentic, only for the Martian to paralyze him and throw him into the pier. The Martians returned to their ship and took off, where they were seen by the navy sailor, accidentally dropping the raygun, which the navy sailor picked up. Realizing they had lost the weapon, the Martians returned to the ground to look for it, saying that Humans were not ready for something so advanced. Finding that the navy sailor had the weapon, 6218 volunteered to retrieve it, intending to seduce the sailor. Finding the sailor, she tricked him into putting on her magnetic pulser, using a controlling device to make the sailor's arm move erratically and give her the raygun. 6218 then teleported away, but continued controlling the sailor's arm. When Chapulín, who had eventually unfrozen, tried to talk to the sailor for information, 6218 used the controller to make the sailor strike Chapulín multiple times, making Chapulín fight back with his mallet, although the blows knocked off the magnetic pulser, freeing the sailor. However, as the sailor ran off to get the authorities, Chapulín foolishly put on the magnetic pulser, allowing 6218 to control his arm, making Chapulín contradict himself with a contrary gesture while trying to tell a scuba diver of the Martians. 6218 then made Chapulín's hand gesture and move uncontrollably as another sailor came by, making him throw the sailor into the pier while trying to explain the situation again, then making Chapulín smack himself with his mallet repeatedly, much to the scuba diver's amusement, before Chapulín's arm was used to knock out the diver. The navy sailor then returned, trying to tell Chapulín to remove the magnetic pulser, only for Chapulín's arm to knock out the sailor mid-sentence.
Chapulín was then confronted by the two Martians, who paralyzed Chapulín to retrieve the magnetic pulser, with the male Martian putting it on for safekeeping. While the scuba diver appeared unconscious, he had actually awoken as the Martians arrived, but stayed down to not attract attention. When the Martians walked by him, presumably to find a position to teleport away, the diver took the control device from 6218 without her noticing. The Martians eventually returned to their ship, not realizing they had left the controller behind. As they flew away, the Humans recovered and returned to the pub, where the diver revealed he had stolen the controller. Chapulín, knowing that the male Martian was the pilot of the spaceship, decided to get revenge on the Martians, activating the controller and using it to erratically move the arm of the male Martian while he flew the saucer, making the ship uncontrollably fly in various directions, throwing the Martians around within as they frantically tried to remove the magnetic pulser. Any later actions of the Martians, as well as their ultimate motives, are unknown.
Appearances[]
- El Chapulín Colorado s03e01 "No es lo mismo "los platillos voladores" que "los bolillos plateadores"" (1974)
Notes[]
- The 1977 version of the episode featured an identical species, albeit with the male Martian played by a different actor and a different model used for the ship, and the 1985 adaptation, combining elements of "Algún día los terrícolas llegarán a Marte, o por lo menos a estimarte," had another similar species, with the only difference being ship models, costumes, and a robotic distortion over their voices.
- This episode appears to be an adaptation of a 1970 sketch of El Chapulín Colorado, the first appearance of the hero, featured in Los supergenios de la mesa cuadrada, which had its own distinct Martian species in a similar situation, although featuring only one Martian with a visibly alien appearance and openly hostile intentions.
