Arburian Pelarotas (also known as Tortugans)[2] are a generally peaceful race of pillbug-like aliens from the planet Arburia.[3]

Biology

Anatomy

Arburian Pelarotas have soft flesh that is covered by nigh-invulnerable shells.[4] There are two or three large plates on their backs, two round or hexagon-shaped plates on their shoulders, one plate on each forearm, and one plate on each hip. Their mouths are wide and consist of blacks lips and either straight or sharp teeth. They also have four claw-like digits on their hands and three toes on each foot.

Arburian Pelarotas are covered in fur across the thickest parts of their bodies, while every other part except for their elbows and knees has short fur.[5] As they age, Arburian Pelarotas gain a bloated potbelly stature.

Female Arburian Pelarotas are similar to males, but have slimmer torsos and pelvises, smaller exo-plates on their bodies, and feminine lips and eyes.

Ecology

Arburian Pelarotas are sometimes preyed on by Arburian Carcharodons.

Powers and abilities

While either at play or when confronted by aggression, Arburian Pelarotas can roll up into a giant armadillo-like ball and become something akin to motorized wheels that can move at great speed. This is because of chemicals in their exo-plates that reduce friction.[6]

With their tremendous mass, Arburian Pelarotes can ricochet at incredibly high speeds like a pinball, increase their agility, create shockwaves, and generate fierce tornadoes by spinning.

Arburian Pelarotas are strong enough to penetrate solid steel and incapacitate other beings such as Steeler's Species when in sphere form.[7]

Despite their race having top-heavy bodies, Arburian Pelarotas possess enhanced reaction timing and balance. Collectively, this means they can quickly change in and out of ball form to suit their immediate needs.

Arburian Pelarotas possess enhanced reflexes, allowing them to react to speed-based species such as Kinecelerans, Citrakayahs, and Skidmarx's Species.

Arburian Pelarotas possess enhanced dexterity, being able to stop themselves from falling using their sharp claws.

Arburian Pelarotas have a great level of superhuman durability thanks to their shells, which are capable of deflecting lasers even when they are not in sphere form. For Omni-Enhanced and Omni-Kix Arburian Pelarotas, their natural durability is increased thanks to their respective armors.

Arburian Pelarotas can survive in extremely hot and cold environments, such as those found on Mikd'lty.

An Arburian Pelarota's shell can withstand acids, lava, and even extreme friction like that experienced whenever something reenters a planet's atmosphere.[8] They can also withstand the plasma generated by Insectoids.[4]

In their sphere form, Arburian Pelarotas are capable of perceiving their surroundings through something akin to echolocation despite their eyes being covered by their shells. The fur on their bodies act much like cat whiskers, registering shifts in air and motion around them, thereby giving them sightless vision.[5]

Arburian Pelarotas possess excellent hearing, which contributes to their sightless vision.[5] They can also house other beings and fairly large objects within their spheroid form.

Arburian Pelarotas are capable of withstanding the vacuum of space for a limited amount of time.

Due to the alterations Kevin Levin has made to the Antitrix, Wreckingbolt is more powerful than ordinary Arburian Pelarotas. His spiked armor makes him more durable and allows himself to make more destructive crashes when in sphere form. He is also capable of burrowing underground.

Omni-Enhanced Arburian Pelarotas gain an increase in the impact of their attacks from Omni-Enhanced energy, which also provides a charge whilst rolling in sphere form and leaves two blue light trails from the spikes on their sides while doing so.

Similar to Evolved Arburian Pelarotas, the spikes running along an Omni-Enhanced Arburian Pelarota's rock armor can be fired out as explosive missiles.

Omni-Kix Arburian Pelarotas become a lot more powerful in sphere form thanks to the Omni-Kix armor.

Weaknesses

Arburian Pelarotas are subjected to the physical laws of reflection and conservation of momentum, meaning that they have difficulty stopping or controlling their direction if they pick up too much speed. This is especially seen with Wreckingbolt, whose movements in sphere mode can easily throw him off balance simply by rolling too fast.

An Arburian Pelarota's bipedal form is top-heavy, making them very unbalanced and clumsy. This is because their race is made to spin rather than walk like most other sapient species.[6]

Arburian Pelarotas require oxygen to survive, and are limited to holding their breaths while in space.

Arburian Pelarotas can occasionally emit some sort of odor that people housed in their spheroid form can find repulsive.

Arburian Pelarotas can be held in place by either adhesives or beings with strength at a level similar to a Chimera Sui Generis.

Despite their shells being very durable, Arburian Pelarotas can feel pain from being thrashed around by a Celestialsapien.

There is a limit to an Arburian Pelarota's stamina, as a Celestialsapien's laser vision can knock them out.

Arburian Pelarotas cannot roll on slippery surfaces, such as a Gourmand's slime.

Arburian Pelarotas can be affected by magic, as there is a spell that can constrain them in the terrain they stand on.

Arburian Pelarotas can be incapacitated by electricity, such as that generated by a Transylian.

Like other living beings, Arburian Pelarotas can be controlled by a Vladat's Corrupturas if they remain uncurled.[4]

Culture and society

With many resources and an ideal climate, the typically slow, clumsy, and awkward Arburian Pelarotas live in harmony. Arburia itself is considered a vacation spot by many other species. However, the Arburian Pelarotas often have to deal with troublemaking tourists.

Adult Arburian Pelarotas are dedicated to the education and safety of the young, who would rather play outside than focus on their studies. In short, once school is over, the kids go straight to the beaches in a flash. A few adults stick around for lifeguard duty while beachgoers enjoy the extreme way of fun.

Arburian Pelarotas would hold celebrations in Arburia, where people would dress up in costumes.[9]

Technology

Arburian Pelarotas get around in Gyrosphere-like cars and use special boats for fun. They also have massive turrets used in lifeguarding.

History

One week prior to Ben Tennyson's discovery of the Omnitrix transformation Cannonbolt, Arburia was destroyed by an entity known as "The Great One". Because of this, the Arburian Pelarotas are believed to be extinct.

Despite this, it would not be much of a surprise if there are a few alive somewhere.[10] In fact, it is believed that there are supposedly a few survivors scattered across the galaxy,[4] living on planets such as Vulpin.[2]

Alternate History

In Dimension 27998.3, the Great One does not appear to exist. Therefore, Arburia is left intact and the Arburian Pelarotas are thriving.

Notes

  • The name Pelarota is based on "pelota", which is Spanish for "ball", and "rota", a play on the word "rotation"; it was first used on-screen by the Leader alien in the Ben 10 episode "The Big Tick".
  • An Arburian Pelarota's sphere form is similar to the Morph Ball ability used by Samus Aran. Meanwhile, their spin attacks are based off that of Anguirus.
