Alien Species

The Fiery Blowhog is a terrestrial Land Blowhog commonly found in many expeditions on PNF-404. This species is highly adaptable, and has been found all over the planet on numerous occasions.

Biology[]

As a Land Blowhog, the Fiery Blowhog supports its body on four, singular-toed, stubby legs Its body is covered in a heat-resistant skin covering to avoid the creature from burning from the inside out. It has small eyes on each side of its head, making it difficult to see objects in front of it. The very tip of its snout is colored in a red tint compared to the rest of the body, the only differentiating factor between it and its close relative the Watery Blowhog.

As its name suggests, the Fiery Blowhog is capable of shooting out fire from its tube-like mouth. This complex process under study revealed a volatile phosphorous compound that is combustible upon contact with the air. Numerous factors make this possible to the air-to-fuel ratio at its mouth. If a water-logged coating is trapped inside its mouth (such as wet mud or dirt), this can negate its fire-breathing ability. This partially is why they tend to avoid water.

While the exact reproduction behavior hadn't been promptly observed, juvenile fiery Blowhogs had been seen and studied. The juveniles seen mirror the appearance of the adults, and even at their young age are already capable of shooting fire from their mouths. Young Fiery Blowhogs are called "Fiery Blowlets".

Subspecies[]

Titan Blowhog[]

Much like the Red Bulborb, the Fiery Blowhog too has been seemingly reported to have a "giant" variant in scorched areas of PNF-404. This type of Fiery Blowhog can grow to the size of the Puffy Blowhog, one of these reported by Captain Olimar himself. But aside from size, reports claim it has better control over its fiery breath. It is seemingly able to shoot out flamethrowers but also can shoot fireballs at intruders. This indicates a higher level of intelligence than its smaller counterpart.

Later studies of these specimens reveal that this creature, much like the Snowy Blowhog, is able to undergo a form of gigantism due to hormone abnormalities. These specimens are also incapable of reproducing, and the added stress of maintaining an abnormally larger body shortened the natural lifespan of the Fiery Blowhog, thus making these creatures rare to find in general.

Notes[]

  • Its smaller stage, the "Fiery Blowlet", for whatever reason, has its own scientific name, "Sus draconus infanta", however this is faulty, since that would imply it to be a subspecies, when it is in fact another stage in its life cycle.
