Eve's species are an ancient, unnamed, now-extinct Human-like species from an unknown now-destroyed planet, and an ancestor of Humanity.
Biology[]
Eve's species appear completely indiscernible from Humans, and presumably live in an environment that has Earth-like gravity and atmospheric composition. Any differences in physiology, such as organs, lifespan, and other bodily functions are unknown, but they are presumably extremely close to Humans in physiology. They are genetically compatible with Adam's Species. Apples are known to be able to provide sustenance to this species.
Culture and society[]
Very little is known about Eve's species. If Eve's actions are representative of her species, it is possible that Eve's species is far more xenophobic than Adam's species, reluctant to meet members of other species, even if they appear very similar in outwards appearance, as Eve's first action upon seeing Adam was to knock him out with a rock and sneak aboard his ship. Eve immediately turned to a defensive reaction upon assuming that Adam had a weapon, although he only picked up a stick, possibly implying that her species has a strong fear of weaponry, taking the action of even holding a potential weapon extremely seriously. Their language is unknown, although they are able to understand pantomime and generalized drawings, and appear to have some language similarities with Adam's species, allowing Eve to eventually understand at least some of Adam's speech. They appear to have had little emphasis on space travel, or some other event could have been engulfing their society prior to their homeworld falling out of orbit, preventing them from having any other ships ready to evacuate the population.
Technology[]
Eve's species was able to create spacecraft capable of reaching interstellar distances. However, their technological capability appeared incapable of stopping their planet from falling out of orbit, and Eve was the sole survivor of her homeworld, meaning that her species had extremely few manned operational spacecraft.
History[]
Eve's species had existed when Earth was still developing, and had entered an advanced industrial stage. However, their planet fell out of orbit, an event that soon killed all life on its surface, with only one member of their species, a female named Eve Norda, able to escape aboard a spacecraft. Her ship crashed on an ancient and unnamed Earth, crashing onto its surface. Eve survived on the surface for some time, surviving off of apples, and eventually wandered into a forested area, where the spacecraft of a survivor from another world, Colonel Adam Cook, had also crashed. At night, when Adam exited his ship, Eve knocked him out with a rock and entered his ship, presumably looking for food and supplies. When she hears Adam getting up and reentering the ship, she hid in the closet, prompting Adam to exit again to show he meant no harm. Seeing this, Eve emerges from the craft, coming face to face with Adam. While unable to understand Adam's language, she was able to communicate with him through pantomime and dirt drawings. She only introduced herself as Norda, while Adam only introduced himself as Cook, and told Adam about what happened to her homeworld. Stranded together, they prepare to look for food, but Adam picks up a stick, which Eve took as a sign of hostility, prompting her to scratch Adam's face and run off. Later, she returned, repentant for her actions, and Adam readily forgave her. They both head out to find food, entering a fertile area that Adam likens to a garden. Adam takes some dirt and asks what Eve called the substance in her language, to which she replies "Earth." Adam decides to officially name the planet Earth, as he and Eve exchange their full names, before Eve sees an apple and offers it to Adam. Adam and Eve then began a new life on Earth. Their future descendants were known as Humanity, Eve's species ultimately left extinct.
Appearances[]
- The Twilight Zone, s05e09, "Probe 7, Over and Out" (1963)
Notes[]
- Adam oddly referred to his system, which was within the Milky Way, as a "galaxy," which may either be an error in the script or the word that Adam's species utilizes for solar system. Adam refers to Eve's homeworld as being in another galaxy, but it is unknown if this is literal or merely referring to another solar system, making it possible that Eve's species is also native to the Milky Way.
- The plot of the episode is a sci-fi retelling of the story of Adam and Eve.
