This is a sapient, unnamed species of aliens whose civilization is still confined to their homeworld. As of the 23rd century, they've been beginning to explore other planets and have managed to build space capsules which can leave their home system.
This species is also notable for their government conspiracy to deny the evidence of other intelligent life forms in the universe.
Biology[]
Members of this species are humanoid and have leathery green skin, no external ears and several fleshy tendrils on their heads in place of hair. Internally, it has been noted that their cardiopulmonary and neural systems are very different from Humans'.
Culture and society[]
Their development level, as of the 23rd century, is comparable to that of late 20th century Earth in most aspects. Their space exploration ventures are mostly confined to their own star system, with the exception of some long-range probes which have managed to explore neighboring stars, including the Sol System. Some of their space vessels are saucer-shaped.
Some members of this species believe that a race they refer to as the "Outsiders" has been visiting their world, interfering with their social development, and that these visits are being covered up by a government conspiracy, resulting in the continuous destruction of evidence. Other individuals, however, remain skeptical about these claims.
In truth, their government has indeed been involved in a conspiracy, but not the one it appeared to be. When they first picked up signals from Earth, they decided to use these "Outsiders" as a scapegoat for the population to blame for their problems. As such, the aliens' government has been continuously fabricating evidence of the "Outsiders"' activities and then covering up and denying it, persecuting those who try to pursue the truth in order to keep the conspiracy alive.
Appearances[]
- Crusade, s01e12, "Visitors from Down the Street" (1999)
Notes[]
- The existence of this species is largely an homage to the cast of The X-Files.
- The name 'Eridanian' was never actually said in the episode but rather, it comes from the name of the area of the galaxy they come from, the Eridani Sector.
